Does anyone have a recipe for a home made Christmassy hot chocolate mix?

I made some hot chocolate mix for my Mum last year from a recipe I got from Mumsnet and it went down really well - especially with DH who tried the last of our batch last week and has been asking for more... but I've lost the recipe and can't find the old thread!

I'd love to make some more for this year if anyone has a recipe they'd like to share...

Was it the one where you grated real chocolate and mixed it with hot chocolate powder? Ring any bells?

There was definitely real chocolate and cocoa in it. There were spices too but I can't remember which ones.

There was this one last year from SeriousWispaHabit:

"Spiced hot chocolate - I mixed cocoa powder, finely chopped plain chocolate and sugar about equal volumes. I think about 250ml of each and added 2 tablespoon cinnamon, half teaspoon ground cardammom and teaspoon grated nutmeg. Haven't taste tested yet - will do so this evening so may need to tweak amounts. I'll report back. Will make pretty labels saying to add 2-4 tablespoons to a mug of hot milk"

No trouble. TBH I never got around to making any last year. Can I ask you Blathers, do you find it dissolves OK in the milk?

I found using my mini cappucino frother really helped make the hot chocolate mix smooth. It did get a few chocolate-y balls of powder floating on the top otherwise.

While I was searching this afternoon, I also found this recipe which sounds good as my Mum loves Horlicks:-

For the epic hot chocolate mix

2 tablespoons Horlicks
2 tablespoons cornflour
3 tablespoons icing sugar
4 tablespoons quality organic cocoa
100g quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids), finely grated
a pinch of ground cinnamon
a pinch of sea salt

  1. Pour the milk into a large pan, and bring almost to the boil over a medium heat.

  1. Meanwhile, add all the chocolate mix ingredients to a large jar and give it a good shake to combine. You need around 10 heaped tablespoons of the chocolate mix for this amount of milk. Simply spoon the chocolate mix into the hot milk, give it a good whisk and leave to bubble away for a few minutes before serving. You're looking for that gorgeous, thick, almost claggy, knockout texture.

DH did love the cardammom one though so maybe I'll try both...

"This amount of milk" is 2 pints semi-skimmed milk by the way
