Which ipod for dd?

Dd is 10 and so far hasn't shown any interest in technology (other than a DS which isn't used much these days) but this year she would like an ipod.

She likes the look of the nano in pink but I'm wondering if the ipod touch would be better? I'm not particularly up on the latest gadgets, can someone explain the difference in features? And is it a good present for a 10 year old?

Also how do I put music on to it? From the CD or download from a computer? Sorry if I sound a bit clueless.

The iPod touch would give access to the Internet over wifi, can store photos, be used for email etc and apps can be downloaded onto it (games etc). Music is transferred to it (and the nano) via iTunes which you would need on your computer. Music can be downloaded onto iTunes or you can transfer music from cd's onto your computer which can be imported to iTunes.

No idea which is best for a 10 year old girl though!

I'm not very techy and can't really go into details on differences (although I think the nano is just a music/video player, whereas the touch plays games too??) but I can highly recommend the ipod touch.

My dd, was 10 almost 11, got one for Christmas last year and absolutely loves it.

They're fabulous pieces of kit.

I'd go for the touch Smile

You would need an iTunes account the iPod touch can have games, music, apps, films etc and are great!

My 6 year old loves his, they are password protected when they want to download games etc do no worries about inappropriate stuff, you can limit what rating films can be watched or just not put them on (in settings on iTunes) bit harder to limit Internet unless you just disable it.

You can put all your CDs on your iTunes or buy them from the iTunes store.

If you buy triple play DVDs you get a digital copy to put onto your iTunes.

I'm pretty sure we have iTunes already as dh has an ipod. He's not sure though if you can download from iTunes onto 2 different ipods ....?

Yes you can. You could set up some folders/playlists to manually manage syncing an iPod for you DD so everything your DH has doesn't transfer over.

Would also get as big a memory as you can as 8gb doesn't hold much if you start putting films etc on, my sons is a 32gb.

Can you get audio books on iTunes?

My just-turned-8 DS asked for an iPod nano for Christmas. I originally decided to buy him a Touch instea but, having compared the size/weight if both, decided to stick with the Nano (the Apple store have a limited edition red one which is rather funky!) and a slap-band thing to wear it on his wrist.
If your DD would listen to it on the way to school, in her room etc then a Touch would be fab. For my football-playing, Taekwon Do-loving 8yo the Touch just seemed too big, heavy and (frankly!) expensive to be bobbing around in his pocket while he did sliding tackles!

Either way, I'm sure she'll be delighted! We're massive iPod fans in this house, even DS2 (3) has my old shuffle for listening to his stories on!

I would go for the iPod Touch.

DS has one and it is fab.

She can play games on it, listen to music, look up the internet, send emails or text messages (with an app and only to people with a smartphone) and lots more.

The parental controls are good, so you can keep an eye on what she is doing on it.

An iPod Touch is basically an iPhone without the phone.

Get a cover for it though, as they are quite easy to drop and the screen may break. DS has an Otterbox cover.

oh, and you can get audio books on iTunes or via Audible for Amazon.

And you can put Kindle on it for downloading books.
