Coloured or clear tree lights??

I'm always being told that coloured christmas tree lights are naff and old fashioned, but I bloody love them!! Clear lights are so dull, every other light is clear so why not add some colour at christmas? There is nothing more exciting than sitting with just the tree lights on watching a christmas film and if they clear ones, you may as well just have a lamp on in my opinion.

Which do you prefer??

I prefer white because it means you can see the decorations on the tree more clearly.

My lights went 'pouf' a couple of years ago, just before Christmas, and the only lights I could buy were coloured ones.

The tree did look lovely, but you could only see the lights.

But - whether they are naff or not, is up to you. Just get which ever you prefer!

I love coloured too! Clear ones are too try-hard sophisticated imo.

I've always had clear (on a cream tree). However, I think when making it special for young children, the more colour the better. Therefore, this year I've got a red tree and having multicoloured lights :)

I like coloured lights on the tree and white ones round windows etc.

I like my tree to be a glorious jumble of crap lots of different things you've acquired over the years. The lovely coordinated ones are nice in other people's houses but don't quite work in ours....Grin

coloured, definitely.
people on here always bang on about clear ones being more tasteful, but IMO tastefulness has no part to play in Christmas festivities Smile.

With you 100% Mistressploppy, that's what christmas trees should be IMO.

I got my coloured lights from the pound shop! Definitely not sophisticated!

We have clear lights, when I was a child my mum had blue and green lights but my nan and grandad had proper 70s style decorations (their baubles had string round them iygwim?), complete with gorgeous multicoloured lights and these are the ones I coveted most!

We have clear on the living room tree and coloured on the hall tree. The living room tree is a picture of colour co-ordinated, tastefulness.
The hall tree is a mish mash of colour and crap stuff the dc have made. The hall is by far my favourite.

I've always had clear since I started to buy my own but after having DC I've had a hankering for the lantern-shaped Quality-Street-coloured ones that my parents had. I'm quite conscious of clashing and garish colours (unlike my parents and ever other person who bought carpet and paint in the 1970's) so my Christmas decorations don't have that "verve" which spells, "Celebration!"

Having jewel-coloured lights sorts that out IMO.

I like clear but I will get coloured ones for my DS this year.
I do agree that coloured ones are more christmassy! My iPhone is telling me I should spell it colored.

I know white are more tasteful and we have them on the tree but coloured feels more christmassy so will be having some somewhere!
