I am really struggling to think of presents for my son this year! So wondered if any of you wise mners can give me some ideas please.
I have bought him the Kinect for his xbox and will buy some games for that, but other than that I am totally stuck!

He has a pc in his bedroom, (no internet access) which he uses to do homework on and to play flight sim on. Xbox is down in the lounge so we can monitor usage. He likes reading but has a small library of his own now.
Loves vw beetles and camper vans and has a few canvas prints in his room.

Dd is pretty much sorted now and i feel guilty for not having inspiration with him, its so difficult,

So come on you lovely ladies, give me some ideas please. I would be very grateful. :)

I would have thought that the kinect was a good enough present in itself!

budget?? I'm assuming the kinect is the "big present" and you are looking gor fillers , is that right?

Yes thats the biggie, should have put in OP that it was stocking fillers, The kinect is bnib but was only £65, rather than the £129 it normally costs.
We normally spend £150 on both children, so bits and bobs ideas would be graet, thanks. :)

I have a now 15yr old and the following are the sort of things he gets as "fillers" some of which are family traditional silly presents

PJs socks/pants (tradition, when they were little father christmas brought character pants as mum was too tight to buy them when plain one were fine!)

Anything he needs but is a bit above and beyond regular spends eg under armour for rugby .

DVD/CVD- something from the play.com under £5 section, often a t shirt from there as well

A lynx gift set (tradition! Gotta have smellies)

We used this last year for 11.5yr old DDs "big" present- which was a couple of the books new from us, quite a few borrowed from the older 2 kids book cases and a pretty notebook to list/review the ones she'd read in (and a copy of the list). Grandparents also gave a book and amazon voucher for the next book

www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/news/the-50-books-every-child-should-read-2250138.html

There are so many beetle/VW themed gift lines that you'll certainly find something there- stationary/mug etc (we had mini themed stationary from wolco for DS last year that was really good and cheap, they still have it maybe that'll work?)

I've been known to give library books as Xmas pressies to the kids to bulk out the pressie piles too- just pop a note in saying the gift is the story not the book- my kids loved that.

DS like a loaded starbucks card too so he can go and have a grown up coffee if he's in town

Does that help?

I got my ds1 ( 11) knex cars from home bargains online for £10 instead of £25. Have also got him a calendar for his stocking.

Theas that is fabulous thank you! I will go and look at the link properly now! He does like going to s'bucks, but i don't feel he is quite old enough to go on his own just yet, but that could work with 'taking Mum for a coffee' Haha!
Some excellent ideas thank you!

Inchoccyheaven, brilliant thank you! He does like knex, he once asked about the ferris whell (is that the same brand) I will go and have a look on HB online now too,

Thanks both of you! :o

Sadly not, because nice as she is, she is eleven and a pain in the arse at times.

Hope your DS enjoys his presents Smile

I will be coming back to this thread-my DS is 12 in December so I've got two lots of presents to buy. He's not old enough to have combined presents yet.

We normally buy him one fairly expensive present for his b/day. Then for Vhristmas he'll have a few mid-price presents and his stocking gifts.

He'll get X-Box games, maybe Wii/ Ninendo DS games
A nice watch

His stocking gifts, I got things from Hawkins Bazaar, jigsaws, keyring, 3D bookmark.

DS isn't enamoured of clothes/ smellies but I'll wrap some up to bulk out the gift pile Grin

Ooo Hawkins Bazaar. i've heard of that, but never looked, Thank you for that idea!

my DS had this 20 questions ball a few years ago and loved it. He also enjoyed Othello He was very into his xbox/computer games, but he liked these two things. Would second Hawkins Bazaar - totally overpriced, but some good ideas for older boys. Infact, just went onto their website to see if they still had some of the things DS enjoyed from htere, notice they've got a "VW Campers" history book, but maybe your DS already has that?

Lilolil, he had that 20Q 2 years ago, its still going strong now, we all try to fox it but it always gets the answer, although sometimes its passed the 20Q lol!
He has a history of VW camper vans, not sure its the same one so I will go and check, I am going to have a good look on all the recommended sites today, will be better than ironing thats for sure! :)

Me again.... Just reading Good Housekeeping, they have their annual "Christmas gift guide" (hasn't helped me AT ALL with my shopping) but it includes a "camper van" money box, from Poundland. Just incase that's of interest.

check out //www.firebox.com - there are great little gadgets, science stuff, things that are a bit more educational/active, some really give a good wow factor

Good luck
