Ordered and just received this for ds's christmas Leapfrog Interactive Globe for £39.99 and £1.50 postage (normally ~£70-£79) from the Leapfrog Store.

Was a bit worried as hadnt heard of them before and only comment I could find was on moneysupermarket.com, someone didnt recommend them, but it arrived today in perfect condition and its the British voices one Smile

Also had a code in the box for £5 off £20 spend - Loyalty11

that looks good ... there are some reviews on amazon which are pretty positive for those that don't go faulty!

It's a brilliant thing - FIL bought one a good few years ago for the DSs (looks a bit different but the same thing) and it's one of those toys/gadgets that has run and run - we've used it a lot.

We love ours, it's good for any age, I taught myself geography I'd never been taught at school and nearly forgot to cook the Xmas dinner

I've just ordered one ... it will be good for me to brush up on my geography at the very least!

The pen did wear out after too many years or rough use, particularly by competitive adults at drunken parties. (you have to find as many named places as possible in 2 mins). But new pens are available at a sensible price. For younger ones you can set it to ask easy questions, like 'where is africa', or just give info when you touch a certain place.

Ds has one. Got it 6 years ago and he got loads of use from it for many years and it still works fine now. I can certainly recommend it :)
It has a headphone socket too!

ds was 7 when i got him it and he loved it. He used to take it to school at the end of term (with headphones) for several years and lots the other children were queuing up for a go. He's now 12 and we do still play with it occassionally, but not every day like it was for about 2 years (and then weekly for another year or 2 after that).
He completely thrashed his geography teacher in the end of term quiz of year 7 (secondary school)- naming as many countries as you could and correctly finding them on the map!

Do you think at 9, ds will be too old for this?

tass, i am surprised at you shopping this early!! I have however been thinking about this globe, especially as gillybean2 thinks it's good for a 7yo... and wondered if pil may like to buy it joint for dc - have you mentined it to your parents tassisssss?

tassisssss · 21/09/2011 08:59

ja9, haven't mentioned largely as i think my mother might freak if I mention Christmas yet. I thought if I had it packed away then when she does ask I could say, how about you give this joint to all 3/the girls. Alternatively I might give it to dd1 as her "main" gift. I think it looks great!

As for shopping early, I know!!! I'm only doing this as it's a bargain and if not I'll regret it. And I have Oct deadline in head for Irish family...

Just received the globe, and without taking it out of the packaging, it looks great, DD will love it!

I was a bit worried as it had taken quite a while to arrive but rang customer service, the woman on the end of the phone was lovely and said how they'd had a run on them they were waiting for stock - they were due in next day. Having worked in procurement i know this is often a 'line' but here it is!!

Thanks for the link to the offer, OP.

When did you order it? I'm waiting for one aswell but can't remember which day I ordered it.

Actually, I have 2 parcels that I missed while I was out this morning. I wonder if the globe is one of them...

Ooh, I'm convinced now that one of my missed parcels is it! Damn, ds is off on a teacher training day tomorrow so I can't play with it until after the weekend!
