So far I haven't done much. Actually, maske htta 'nothing'. Dh has made trifle. I have bought quality pigs in blankets and stuffing. I haven't even peeled the spuds yet.
The gammon has been soaking in frequently changed water. I have decided not to boil it till tomorrow morning.
Maybe I am just feeling a bit guilty thta I haven't done much yet.
What have you done already ?

We just ate ours! Xmas Smile

I am a nervous cook so decided to get it over with.

In oven at 1.30 after party, out at 4, perfect.

Tomorrow we can concentrate on presents and sandwiches! And pudding...

Am too laughing at Flight.
Am assuming that none of the 'cookies' have got a spare minute to post, because they are elbow high in making stuffing or starters or something.
Was hoping thta people would post:
i've done nought
i'm finished
i'm covered in exploding cranberry sauce and am panicking.

But it seems no one is in any of those states ! Hmm

Going to DH's parents for lunch tomorrow. DH and ds1 going away on holiday on boxing day. ds2 and I at home on our own until a fter new year. So haven't done anything. Did go out just before supermarkets closed and pick up reduced duck and salmon though so will pop those in the freezer and do a nice meal when they're back.

I've made the mince pies and later on will make some braised red cabbage. Just before bed I'll put the pork in the slow cooker.

DH will prep the veg tonight and I'll do everything else tomorrow.

Have done the braised red cabbage, the bread sauce and the celeriac puree, and peeled the sprouts. Turkey, stuffing and spuds etc. can wait til tomorrow.

Just emerged from the kitchen with a tray of mulled wine and home-made mince pies and felt just a little bit smug! Xmas Wink

Everything is ready to go except for the potatoes, carrots and brussels sprouts to be peeled in the morning.

Still have the kids presents to wrap but even the table is laid so I am pretty relaxed :)

All done except for the ds' main present to bring in from the garage and find out if I need to put anything together.

Although I'm a keen cook, our Christmas dinner isn't a faff (I just roast potatoes and parsnips and steam the other veg) as I can't be doing with fiddly side dishes. I've made another batch of mince pies and some bagels for breakfast and my mum made the (microwavable) pud.

It's a stuffed turkey leg as there's just the four of us, so that's all sorted. Thanks for reminding me that I need to get the pigs in blankets ot of the freezer Xmas Grin!

I have made the cranberry sauce, the pigs in blankets and the stuffing. I have peeled all of the veg and they are all in pans of water or in plastic bags in the bottom of the fridge. I have cooked the ham. I have iced the cake and baked the mince pies (with homemade mincemeat) and homemade sausage rolls.

I should be feeling smug and Nigella-like, but I just feel frazzled!

Fruit jellies are failing to set in the kitchen (I never 'believe' in gelatine until it actually happens).

Otherwise it's all to do.

I need to defrost the pigs in blankets too - thank you!

Report
Clary · 24/12/2010 21:25

OOoh I am feeling sooooo good.

Today I have: peeled/prepped all veg

made stuffing and prepped bird

Made stuffing and stuffed peppers (veggie guest)

iced Chr cake

made rocky road, fudge, mince pies and choc truffles

Made choc mousse cake for tomorrow, and meringues for Eton Mess for B day

I have also hoovered, cleaned bathroom and delivered a couple of stray Chr cards.

Now I just need to do the ironing

PS the only way this is possible is because DH takes the DC to my in-laws for the day; and I also like doing it, otherwise I certainly would buy it all in.

Love it Flight Xmas Grin
I have peeled and parboiled spuds and parsnips and done the sausages and bacon but that's it. DD made the jelly for the trifles but it didn't set (bless her) so have made another lot. We will have to wack up a last minute trifle tomorrow morning between pressies and late lunch.

I am determined to be laid back this year (but seriously Flight, am full of admiration for you.)

have done nothing. have been ill. only got halfway through christmas cards too - no point now. DH currently cleaning the windowframes. massive ironing pile upstairs. only one thing wrapped. half decorations not up. Child only 17 months so it's unlikely to scar him for life.

All to do and like Lexi have been ill so am way behind where I normally am. First year ever, I haven't either made a Christmas pudding myself or got one from Mum. Mum had made one for me but couldn't get it to me because of the snow.
Lexi, put your feet up and chill! ironed clothes are over-rated! I never wrap Santa presents in any case, mine were never wrapped as a child and it never did me any harm!
