Christmas

Tell me what to get for DH, because frankly, I haven't got a clue

Why are men so blardy difficult? I have bought him some clothes which is very unexciting but if I didn't do it, he wouldn't.

So I'm looking for something whimsical that he will enjoy.

So please, help me out.

Just to help you (to help me - crosses fingers)

He doesn't like sport of any description other than tennis, he doesn't drink, smoke or gamble. He is a teensy bit puritannical so would regret hugely an expensive present that he didn't enjoy.

His idea for a present for me was an electric blanket btw (just for info, I have nipped that idea in the bud). So think unromantic Yorkshireman.

Does he have a filthy sense of humour?

The Viz Profanosaurus is one of my H's favourite presents, has him in convulsions

Ooh, spanking idea. I will do that.

If he liked the idea of an electric blanket for you what about a slanket for him? A joke of course but a practical one :)

Not much help I never know what to get DH.

He asked for a specific book so got that.
Pair of pj bottoms (he doesn't wear the tops).
Chocolate brazils.

DS1 (4) has got him:
golf tees
big toblerone.

Exciting Christmas ahead for DH then Xmas Hmm
I always feel so bad but he really doesn't mind, so he says.

Oh, all good ideas - I will try an audio book - he does drive a lot.

I'm not sure about the slanket on the basis that he doesn't really do sitting down much.

I love your description of him!

Does he like music - how about some CDs of bands that he loved when younger? I've got Blancmange, Orange Juice and The Happy Mondays for dp.

Gloves and scarf? New coat?

Food things? Eg nice cheese and crackers, some posh chutneys etc?

Day out?

DH has got (so far - unless I see a brill idea on this thread)

The Pacific - box set of DVDs for some TV programme?

COD wii game (an older version as they were cheaper and he has never played them before
)
SAS Guide to Survival - a book from The Book People

Some designer socks - bought in TKMaxx

Flask - right size for taking out to rugby training (he takes DS1)

Pack of hankerchiefs - he blows his nose a lot!

I normally get him hankies! but think he has tonnes atm.

Have bought him lots of books before and he hardly ever has time to read them, so just the one this year.

Going to be such a paltry collection for him, though i did tell him a while back i didn't have many ideas for him and tbh i didn't have many ideas for me either so hopefully he won't have spent £££ on me!

Cece - which flask did you get? Dp says he wants a flask, even though we have got 2!

I was going to ask this exact same thing. Mine has got a sweatshirt and a subscription to New Scientist from me so far (got him a 6 month subscription for his birthday which has handily just expired but he loves it so I'm hoping it won't be too samey) and a space book by Dr Brian superfox Cox from the DCs.

I wouldn't be bothered normally because we agree not to get much for each other but I know there's a new coat under the christmas tree for me and other things to come if I can believe the kids' hints.

Last year I knitted him socks and he wrote me poetry - way easier!

I've got DH an air compressor. But I think that might be somewhat of a niche gift.

Report
Quattrocento · 21/12/2010 18:46

But what do you do with an air-compressor? I mean obviously you compress air, but why? What use is compressed air? Would DH like it?

Does he have tennis lessons at all? My DH keen mountain biker and I've arranged a special coaching session for him to improve his skills Hmm

So something like that but tennis related?

And what will you be getting if not an electric blanket?

Glad it's not just me! Have got DH new oven gloves (gosh, exciting), Monty Python DVD, Jamie Oliver serving platter thing, shirt and jumper. Not very exciting is it?

Report
TheFallenMadonna · 21/12/2010 19:00

It's for tools

I got it from Machine Mart, which was quite intimidating.

Is he handy? I think you have to be handy to appreciate an air compressor.

What about a tropical fish tank Personally I think they are highly tacky but DH has hankered after one for yonks and its finally happening!!!

Report
Quattrocento · 21/12/2010 19:12

No he's not handy. Disappointing.

I dunno about a tropical fish tank. I like the idea in theory but in practice cleaning the tank out would be a chore, we would forget to feed the fish and they would die fairly quickly. At least that's what happened to the goldfish ...

Anyhow, I don't think he likes fish, unless served on a plate with chips. Did I mention DH was a Yorkshireman?
