My dd is just 5 and during the past year we've read a lot of the following:

Katie Morag
That rabbit belongs to Emily Brown
Various Lauren Child - Charlie & Lola, but also Clarice Bean

Less picture books, but read-aloud with some simple line drawings:
My Naughty Little Sister
Milly Molly Mandy
Daisy - The Trouble with...

Any help?!

I've bought my just 5 yr old niece this

She loves them - there is a huge range of them, picture books as well.

My five year old dd loves 'Mixed up fairytales' Nick Sharratt.

She loves the sense of ridiculous when all the different tales are mixed up.

She also loves any of the Princess Poppy books by Janey Louise Jones.

I've got the Usborne Nutcracker book in the shop.

there's also a lovely hardback of Christmas Stories for Children, and Magical Stories for Chioldren - all from Usborne.
They're lovely gifts ( and hard-wearing...)

and also classic stories for children at the bottom of the page (the other books i mentioned are also in this design - padded hardbacks)
