Her curent favourites are The Grinch and The Neverending Story, she is 4.5 and doesn't like animation films - all suggestions gratefully recieved!

Trying to think of when DS first watched Homeward Bound where two dogs and a cat have to make their way home across six gazillion miles of America to reunite with their humans [sniff]. He loved it!

Would she cope with Enchanted? Animated to begin with but then not - the evil queen is pretty scary but the rest is lovely.

What about classics like Mary Poppins or The Wizard of Oz?

My 2 found Wizard of Oz scary at that age (Daddy had to take it out of the house and store it in the office for a couple of years so the witch wouldn't climb out of the case and get them) but they are a bit strange like that. I agree with Mary Poppins or Sound of Music. Polar Express? The Snowman?

Thanks SleepingLion Homeward Bound or Enchanted could be good ones. She has seen the other two, but wasn't impressed.

dd absolutely loved The Cat in the Hat at this age, someof it went over her head, but it's Mike Myers, not animated and has some great visual gags and i love it too!!

Ooh you replied when I wasn't looking! She doesn't mind mildly scary, seems to really like it or find it funny!? Will look at the dog films, there is a theme here!

Fox and Child is beautiful; gets quite challenging towards the end but if you're watching together you can explain things (basically the fox, being a wild creature, escapes from the girl's house and jumps through the window - looks like it might be dead but isn't). I'd suggest watching it yourself first to judge suitability.

how about snow buddies, santa buddies or santa paws?

Charlotte's Web is really lovely (the recent live action one, not the animated version)

I'd also say Enchanted, which my 5yo has loved for a couple of years now and doesn't mind the scary bits (although my nearly 3yo ds finds it WAY too scary!)

Others that have been hits with my dd, which aren't animated, are Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, Danny the Champion of the World and Mamma Mia Hmm

My dd (3) is terrified of Nanny McPhee!

I would recommend the polar express or the snowman

Thank you for the further recommendations. I've gone for Matilda and Enchanted because I think those are the ones she would like most (and they were cheaper than I thought!)

I agree that the Polar Express and the Snowman are lovely, but will probably be on telly so will record them from there for free.

Nanny McPhee and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (old one, not creepy newer one!) are already favourites here I forgot about those! If it is any consolation Tikkabillajive, my DD likes Hairspray, but I only let her watch selected songs on the DVD - not the whole thing!

Smile It sounds as though she has very similar cinematic tastes to my dd. I must get a copy of Matilda actually, she hasn't seen that, although I'm waiting till we've read the book first. Enchanted is fab - it's one of the few I don't mind watching again and again.
