I'm a bit stuck about what to get for our niece. She is quite into crafty type stuff, but other than that I have no idea what 7 year old girls like!

My DD loves the fashion design books with the stencils. The girl's shape is drawn out and she uses the stencils to draw on the different clothes and then decorates/colours them in. They have them in Hobbycraft and on Amazon.
She has also really enjoyed a window mosaic kit she was given. No glue or stickers were involved. The little bits of "tile" just stuck themselves onto the sheet. These are also on Amazon or in Hobbycraft.
She has a sequence art kit too from Hobbycraft. It is taking her ages to complete is but she loves doing it.
The best craft project we have done is decopatch. We bought a paper mache figure (ours were cats) and glued little bits of decopatch paper all over them to decorate them. I know it sounds bizarre but the effect was lovely and it was a very relaxing thing to do. You can get kits online from The Imagination Workshop and other places if you google decopatch.

Thank you so much, that is brilliant info. I know SIL won't appreciate it if we buy her something that she needs tons of help with :)

I will have a look at all of those :)

A 7 year old would manage all of them by herself. If SIL doesn't like mess to clean up then avoid the decopatch.

Hi ? I?ve just been through all this as looking for ideas for my 8 year old Goddaughter :). Some great ideas people gave me were: Putting together a pretty ?craft? box filled with pens, pencils, paints, crayons, stencils, beads, glue, glitter, stickers, coloured ribbon, cards etc. Then none craft stuff ? Hello Kitty, Hannah Montana, Harry Potter, Hama beads, Barbie, Pocket Pets, Junior Monopoly, Lovelinks Charm Bracelet. I also cheated a bit as I help out at the RSPB so I?m getting her the Wildlife Explorer Membership. It?s a wildlife club aimed at kids up to 12. On joining they get a membership pack which includes things like posters, stickers, log book, membership card, certificate etc , a magazine 6 times a year, plus free entry to all the RSPB nature reserves around the UK. It lasts a year so it?s something to do after Christmas!
