What are you getting your 9/10 year old boys?

Or to rephrase "what to buy the 9/10 year old who has everything"?!

Really stuck on what to get DS for Xmas. And he won't tell me yet what he would like as it is a secret apparently! I suspect he may be trying to ensure I don't see his letter to Santa to prove his existence one way or the other.

Anyway. He is into football, WWE (yuck), has a PS3, has a DS and we have a family Wii. He would like a table tennis table but although we have room here we won't have when we move next summer. He would like a drum kit and has been having lessons for 3 years but DH is not keen. We have a ton of Lego although I do feel a big challenging set may need to be part of present for me him to do over Xmas.

We have lots of board games. He got 2 of those Lego games last Xmas which have not even been opened. He has lots of unread books.

Has an iPod. Would like a TB for his room but that is NOT happening. Would like a laptop - also not happening!

Whats a tb? Sorry if im being thick!

my ds will be 10 start of january and so far is having a jd bug scooter that he is desperate for and a fottie shirt with his name on.

I'm a bit stuck too tbh and had just come on here for inspiration!

He is also having monopoly and another ds game. His bday is jan 1st though and money is very tight at the moment so its hard.

Will watch this thread with interest Smile

I've got the same problem! Was thinking of new ds's but they want to wait for the 3D ones.
How about something for his bedroom? A big beanbag chair or sofa?

Hi my DS1 is 9 (DS2 7) and they would like PS3 Move Starter pack (£40 in Sainsbury's at the moment) and have also asked for Guitar Hero.

DS2 had a multi-games table for his birthday which includes football, pool, ice-hocky, table tennis. It was only a smallish one so doesn't take up loads of room but they've had hours of fun.

I was going to suggest books but see you've already got loads of unread ones.

My problem is I don't want to buy a load of toys which don't get played with and take up too much room!

My 2 like to make their own little comic strips so going to get some more pens, paper, felt tips, stickers as stocking fillers.

You can get WWE pj's or there's an annual out each year.

Does he have any pets? Tropical fish? Guinea pigs?

I second the JD bug - DS1 has one and for Christmas, he is getting it customised Hmm.

He also wants the Paper Jamz guitar-thingy.

Is your Ds fashion-conscious? Mine wants clothes as presents all of a sudden.

Second digital camera. DS had one of those for his 9th bday and has been a big hit.

For some reason, my DS (nearly 9) keeps switching between wanting a metal detector and some kind of new games console but can't make up his mind which one. Is your DS into sciencey stuff, gadgets? New games for the consoles he already has?

Neena - a TB is a typo! I meant a TV. Should preview!

What's a JD bug scooter?

He got footie shirt with name on for birthday. Although got the Away one so wants the Home one Hmm. Maybe. He does love them and wears them and they don't need ironing!

Chamomile - we are moving back to UK next summer so will do his room then.

2greatboys - what's the PS3 move thingie? I seem to have missed that. And I was in Sainsburys on Saturday!

Would love to get one of those games tables but haven't seen them here. We are in Budapest. I must ask around. That would be fab.

Chamomile - binoculars etc - we have all of those.

I did just have an idea though. We are moving from Budapest to Somerset next summer and he had already decided to support Yeovil Town (as well as Arsenal) so I may try and get him tickets to go and see them for when we are home in Feb.

I have a few stocking fillers - earbuds with skull and crossbones on for his iPod, 007 Top Trumps, tin of Match Attax, Terrys Choc orange, choc coins. Also forgot I got him the DVDs of first series of Merlin. We don't get BBC so have missed that and he watched an episode last week in UK and liked it.

JD Bug - stunt scooter. Two wheels, ranging from £50 upwards, coveted by most the 9-10 yr old boys I know Grin.

Thanks Poshpaws - will check them out. Bet you can't get them here!

Well his scooter just arrived. Amazon for 54.70 pro anodized blah blah blah one!!! I have no idea really so hope its right!

I was hoping the tb was something really cool that I'd not heard of...oh well!

Camera might mean he take photos of his time there to show once he is back in uk? Might be a good ice breaker at school etc. Maybe a digital photo frame too?

Converse all stars were popular with him last year too although he hasn't grown out of them yet. I know they do skull and crossbone sets that you can customise them with.

DS1 is getting a video camera and ice skating lessons, as well as a box set of Jeremy Strong books.

My DS (10) is after a stunt scooter - does the handlebar stem turn 360 on the JD Bug ones?

oh the drums- ds2 learns and they suggest drum pads for the quiet but practice worthy option.

SantasMooningArse · 03/11/2010 16:20

Oh Buda is the move going ahead finally (tis peachy btw)? Do bring your ds to meet my lots at teh carnival nearest you then. We' should be performing as usual.

BudaisintheZONE · 03/11/2010 16:23

SantasMooningArse - love your name btw! - we have the practice pad. Not a set though.

The scooter looks cool. Bet I can't get here though.

Not sure about a video camera. We have one that we hardly use so it seems a bit of a waste. I got a new camera so gave him my old one.

He has too much stuff!

Had another idea - Uno Extreme. We love Uno.

I was going to suggest the electronic drum pads too (though I think electronic kits start at £100+ and go on upwards, so I guess it depends on your budget!

I asked his drum teacher about the electronic pads and he didn't recommend them. Said acoustic set much better. Expensive though and loud!

We have a standard second hand set with muffler pads on and tbh it's not loud at all. Would that work?

9/10 is about right for more grown up, board games. We got Settlers of Catan this year. It is fab, not hard to learn, quite strategic, and you don't loose the will to live half way through as with monopoly (need 3 players though..)

Lego Technic if he is that way inclined.

Skateboard and helmet
