Taking a vote: Do kids really love new PJ's on Christmas Eve?

I am thinking of starting it with dd, who will be three at Christmas. It will be the first years she understands anything about Christmas so seems like a good time to start it.

I'm thinking of wrapping a present up with:

A new cup for her
A sachet of hot chocolate
Some edible glitter
A christmas Book (maybe a night before christmas)
New Pj's

Do your DC love it when you do it? Or does it just lost amongst everything else that happens at Christmas?
Did you grow up with it and do you have fond memories of it?

We do new PJs on Xmas eve, take some pics of them getting the mince pies, carrot, stockings etc. They will be 3 and 6 this year and we've done it the last couple of years.

I think it gives them a focus for all the excitement, rather than just bundling them into bed in the hope they'll sleep, and their PJs are usually so tatty that it's nice to have new ones for photos!

I'd swerve the edible glitter though, sticky-hyped up child on Xmas Eve....

Dd loves her new xmas pj's that 'appear' on her bed while she is in the bath Grin

My DC's love it, it also encourages them into bed on Xmas Eve so i can crack on with the food prep and more drinking merriment. Grin

I heard about this last year on MN and think it's a brilliant idea, in fact OP I'm going to nick your idea with the PJs, book, mug for hot chocolate etc (for DS anyway, DD will only be about 15m).

Well I like doing it for myself, so I am planning to start doing it with DS this year, he will be 2 and a half.

We have a lovely old copy of the night before Christmas that always come out on Christmas eve and only then, we also snuggle down with homemade mince pies, hot chocolate (with baileys in) and 'the Muppets Christmas Carol' or 'The Snowman'

"hot chocolate (with baileys in)"

well that's one way to get the kids to sleep!!

ha ha we always had xmas Pjs in my house and I do it with my dc. I honestly think we/they didn't give a shit either way but it bulks up their presents with some practical stuff and as long as they get toys as well they don't mind. I also put a new pair of pants in their stocking which actually do go down quite well - as long as are Star Wars/Spiderman/ Thomas ones etc.

Mine still love it too, they're 9 and 12 and would be really dissappointed if they didn't get new jammies on Christmas eve.

Rofl, the Baileys is strictly for me. :)

I don't drink very much at all during the year but its my tradition to have a Baileys Hot Chocolate on Xmas Eve. Smile

Just one little tip. Check that the pyjamas are the size they should be, before 6pm on Christmas Eve.

The one time I tried it I had two delighted DSs, and one very disappointed DD, because the contents of the pack were a smaller size than the label said. Sad

I'd never heard of new jammies on Christmas Eve , but I think it sounds lovely and I am going to do it from now on!

DH prefers NO jammies on Christmas Eve !!

Growing up we always got new pjs and my parents STILL give us new jammies even though we are 29, 31 and 32. Grin I LOVE it.

I do it with my DSs and they love it too. Well my 5 year old does, the 2 year old is too young.

Dd genuinely loves them... but she was only 3 last christmas. Someone mentioned christmas to her in passing the other day, and she immediately said "when I get my new pyjamas" so it looks like it will be a tradition in this house.

In my family, grandmother always gave everyone a present on Christmas eve which was a decoration for the tree. Our trees are now awash with years and years worth of decorations. And when the dcs were little they could remember which were their decorations.

Can anyone tell me which shop you get Christmassy PJs from please? I have previously got them in babyGap but my eldest is too big for their sizes now.

But both kids love it to answer the OP.

Primark do lovely brushed cotton ones with fun prints - DS2 still squeezes into his frog print ones from 3 xmases ago. And they are cheap!

Both mine love their new PJs on xmas eve - not necessarily "Xmas" jammies tho. (and generally they go and put them on as soon as that appear - even if it's only 5pm. But if we're on our own, then it's jammies and xmas film before bed. Obv if we have guests it's a little more manic.

I did this last year after reading a thread on here about it and thought it was a great idea. I wrapped the pyjamas and put them on the front step and then said "oh, did I just hear the doorbell ring?" and my DC's who were 3 and 5 then were so excited that Father Christmas had left them some special pyjamas to wear on Christmas Eve. They weren't Christmasssy ones though, just thicker soft cotton ones. I will do it again this year it was so lovely.
