Holy S%^t! Have just clicked through and it's £66.50 per person for anyone over the age of 1! With the fees added, it would cost £201 for me to go with 2 dc. What on earth was the original price of this rubbish unmissable experience?

Oooh, the nights are drawing in. I have the traditional MN Lapland UK thread on my seasonal countdown along with carol singers and making the Christmas pudding.

I did like hamlette the elf who posted last year, though. She seemed nice enough (and eventually admitted that "to be honest, if I had more money than sense, which is what ppl who can afford £87 a ticket have, I'd just go to the real Lapland on a 5* holiday").

The real Lapland is an amazing place... we went there a couple of years ago as a way of erasing the memory of the previous Christmas spent in hospital whilst I had emergency surgery to resolve an ectopic pregnancy.

We have far more sense than money normally (and go camping/borrow friends' houses for holidays usually) but Lapland was worth every single penny.

I have llooked borchures for years but can't quite get round the cost and the fact that if you choose wrong, it could be horribly like Centre Parc in the snow...

We stayed in Saariselka, northern Finland (a friend who regularly travels to Finland advised us that as we were going over Christmas itself we needed to be as far north as possible to guarantee the snow). Esprit was the company we used and we'd definitely recommend them; it was pricey but perfect. It was far better than any Center Parcs place I've been to - no bikes to run you over as you leave the lodge but free toboggans to slide down the pavements/drag tired children around in. The food at the hotel (Hotel Holiday Club) was delicious and plentiful as were the meals that we had during the activity days.

DD was just 4 when we went, she was thrilled to meet Father Christmas, loved tobogganing and rolling in the snow. She'd like us to go again because our rather unexpected DD2 hasn't been...!

I'm think if we do ever go though, that what with DSs now being 10 and 8 we should probably avoid the themed Christmas stuff with elves.
Although personally I would enjoy a few reindeer rides and the like...
