I don't know whats wrong but she's ended up with a real fever and we had to take her in to hospital yesterday. They suspect she has a urinary infection. Then I remembered 4 days back she found a bag of crisps and ate a whole load. Have I done this?- the salt intake must have been pretty huge..
I've got to try and get a urine sample from a 1yr old - any advice?
God, please tell me this will get better. Since her fever she's had pretty much nothing and she's never had a bottle so trying to get lots of fluids inside her is going to be hard. I upped the breastfeeding yesterday but its made me feel terrible today. I'm so worried I'm losing it and so far from home...Needed my mum yesterday but ended up bursting into tears on the shoulder of a pharmacist in the local chemist.

brightongirl sorry can't give you much help, just didn;t want t osay nothing. Don't feel guilty about the crisps, they couldn't cause the infection. Urine sample, we got given a stick on sample bag from the hospital, collected just enough dd didn't know she was wearing it. Sorry not much help, just keep trying with the bottle, have you expressed any milk into it?

No - she'll drink from a cup happily but never enough - especially when she's dehydrated. Expressing will just make me produce more milk & I'm trying to cut down..

Good news is her temp is finally down and she's a lot brighter. Just dont want it to happen again.

brightongirl, don't be so damn silly.
These things happen! It does make you stress and feel awful when they are ill though.

I can imagine so, being far from close friends and family. Glad she seems better.

I remember my first scare, I called an ambulance and all, he was fine but it shook me up, lol.

A suggestion, can she drink from a straw? Smoothie cartons with a straw are always good for the littlies, and especially when they are poorly.

Yes she likes straws. Think I may have been giving her too much juice though, and she likes water (weirdo). Think I just have to look at what I'm giving her throughout the day.

Oh bless you you daft thing! Of course you haven't caised a urine infection! Bloody hell, my friend's ds eats about 2 packets of crisps a day he's 15 months he is fine! ~(Although it's not something I'd let my ds do!) I really don't think a one off will hurt her. I know how worrying it is though and you must be upset. Please don't blame yourself. Kids get urine infections all the time, nothing to do with crisps!
