ds (2 next month) normally sleeps for about 2 hours from 12.30 ish to 2.30 ish, bath at 6ish and always in bed by 7 at v latest. Has always worked well. however since just before the clocks went back he's been waking up at 6am and v tired by 11am (if out in car he will fall asleep) he is tired come 6pm but for last 2 weeks he is thrashing around in his cot until about 8pm....

Ive tried delaying nap but he is so tired and ratty. Its a visious circle. He needs to wake up later.

any help out there?

No helpful advice, but that is pretty much what ds1 does too (he's just 2 years). I've tried cutting back daytime naps, but that made no difference to night-time sleeping (did mean he was very grumpy by mid-morning though). I can't find any way to get him to wake up later, so have just resigned myself to an early start.

He is in a bed, and I just let him pootle around in his room reading books, playing with cars etc, until he is ready to sleep. Sometimes he goes straight off at 7, othertimes it is nearer 8pm.

My 2 yo DS has a far from ideal pattern - a very early riser. Can't seem to get him out of it - have tried 'wake to sleep' and later bedtime, even tried cutting daytime nap but that made no difference except making him cranky... Next stop is buying blackout curtains.

Anyway FWIW

5am wake up
1pm-2pm nap (sometimes until 3pm if very tired.)
7:30pm bedtime - goes to sleep quite quickly and sleeps through til the early start next day.

i have a bed for him on order for next week so hoping that may make a difference! Just hoping he doesnt stay up any later/get up any earlier from playing in his room!

I wonder if the blackout blinds do help. My ds who is 22 months, has blackouts velcroed to the windows and he generally goes to 6.30 - but is not one of these who has always been an amazing late sleeper - really no change from the winter months. I have cut his lunchtime sleep from 2 to 1 and a half hours and put him down at 1pm though. Can't think of much else, sorry.

dd naps for half an hour 3 or 4 days a week just after her lunch, so about 12 til half past.

she goes to bed at 6.30, asleep by 7, then wakes at 7. if she's had a very busy day she doesn't wake til 8.

Sounds similar to us... and I just accept that's the way he is. At least it's nice and light at 6 ish now so I feel ok getting up.

He sleeps approx 12pm-2pm, then bed at 7.30 but often doesn't sleep till 8/8.30pm and wakes at 6-6.30am. C'est la vie! It used to be 5am so you won't hear any complaints here.

He's 2 next month.

We had this problem for ages and ages. I pushed the nap time back and back a little at a time. By the age your ds is at, mine was waking at 7am, nap at 2pm for 2-2.5 hours, bath at 6.30pm and bed at 7.30pm. He's now 2.3 and has dropped his nap altogether!

Hi, my ds1 is 2.3 and, usually, this is how his daytime naps go:

wakes any time between 6.30 to 7am.
naps (if we are at home) around 1pm until 2.30pm, sometimes 3pm if he has had a particularly active morning. On some days, though, he refuses to nap at all.
Asleep by 7.30pm.

I find that the waking times go in phases. Your ds obviously feels like being an early bird at the moment. We've had months where our ds1 was waking at 8.00am, sometimes 8.30 (bliss!) and other phases where he was waking at 5.30am for weeks and weeks (grim), so I think perhaps you may have to ride this one out.
You can at least try and 'teach' him that he doesn't come out of his cot/bed/room until 7am. Put books/a few toys in his cot for him to look at/play with when he wakes up? So it buys you a bit of extra time to lie in bed yourself...?

My ds is also two next month and his pattern is almost identical to Weegle's ds. He has gone without a nap altogether on two or three days recently (change in routine as we were visiting relatives) and it made no difference to his nighttime sleep.

He also has waking early phases.

DS wakes up at 6, and sometimes if he has a cup of warm milk he will drop off in our bed till 8-9. You could try that , warm milk and clean nappy, sometimes it works. Same naps etc as everyone else here. I"m sure it's the summer, as I feel more awake in the mornings, and he must do too. Miss his regular 8 pm to 8 am stints though!

My DD3 is just 2.

SHe either (usually when at home):

Wakes between 6:30 and 8 (usually about 7)
Nap 11-12:30ish
Bed 7:30-9:00ish

OR (on a nursery morning, sometimes on a home day)

Wakes between 6:30 and 8 (usually about 7)
Nap 1:30-2:30
Bed 8:00-9:00ish

dd usually does

7am-7.30am Wake up
7pm-7.30pm Bed

On a wide awake day she plays in her cot 1pm-2pm
Every couple of days she does a huge sleep catch up 1pm-4pm.
She's at that age of being able to manage without a lunchtime nap, but not everyday.

DD1 is 2.3, she naps 1-3ish, goes to bed at 7, stays awake reading, talking, generally fannying about until 9 (useless blackout blinds!) and then wakes at 6!

ds is 2.3 if he does have a nap its got to be before 12 or i will have no chance of getting him to bed at night. He will sleep for roughly an hour. Bed at 630 will need me to sit with him until drowsy! And wakes maybe twice in night for milk/love/water/moan! And then up usually at 7am. However he is still bf and co sleeps so thats why he probably wakes up!

If I recall it used be bed by 7 up by 7, nap for 30-45 mins at lunch around 1.00
