did you become pregnant on holiday - or go on holiday to get pregnant?

I'm writing a piece for a broadsheet Sunday supplement on so-called 'procreation vacations'.
I'd love to speak to you (can be anonymous) if you and your partner did conceive on any kind of holiday/ weekend away after a while of trying at home - or if you actually went away on a break in the hope that the change of scenery/ removing yourself from stresses of real life/ home/ work/ other children would relax you and help the process along! No photos, no real names - if any of this applies to you, please leave a message here or e me on moore_anna@btinternet.com

Probably doesn't fall into the category you're looking for, as we hadn't been trying previously, but we planned to start a family soon after getting married and I fell pregnant on honeymoon in Scotland!

Our third child came along as a result of our 10th wedding anniversary holiday in Tobago! But we hadn't been trying beforehand!

We went on a family holiday to Cornwall, twice, and both times came home pregnant. once we tried to, once we weren;t planning to.

have now decided that cornwall is now to risky to visit as we have 5 kiddies, and 5 is enoughwink!!!

Didn't go away specially, but DS1 was conceived in La Gomera (in a fantastic 1970s style bed) and DS2 in Norfolk. Both times we'd been trying for just over a year.

We'd been trying for 4 years and nothing was working. We had a fantastic two week holiday in the Highlands and we both felt much better for it physically and mentally. The next month I fell pregnant. Make of that what you will - DH and I are both convinced it was the holiday what done it. smile

Conceived ds1 on a cruise ship. First week we decided to try and fell straight away. Lucky me smile

I'd been with my now husband for 9 years - and fell pregnant on our honeymoon!!!

I do think the lack of stress / different environment had loads to do with it. It was the best holiday of my life and we were away for over 3 weeks altogether.............

I also fell pg on my honeymoon. With twins. They were born early, so I had to go back to the same Registrar who married us & register TWO children after only seven months!

I only got to TTC for a week...

I have a bit of a bugbear about people suggesting to those struggling to conceive 'oh I bet if you relax and maybe go on holiday it will happen'.

Of course this does seem to be true for some people but I hope that your piece will acknowledge somewhere that clearly there are some people who have serious fertility issues for whom no amount of relaxing holidays and 'not thinking too much about it' will solve the problem.

That's a very good point, because those kinds of comments used to drive me potty when I was TTC.

I found out I was pregnant on holiday. I was so busy at work I didn't even notice I hadn't had a period for a while, as I'd not long stopped breastfeeding. We all felt a bit ill after a paella, but my sickness didn't go away like everyone elses. Took a few more days to put two and two together, and then had to drive around looking for a pharmacy where someone spoke English. Pregnancy tests are more or less the same in Spain thank goodness.

To MNeranonymous - this certainly isn't that sort of feature and won't be suggesting that women with serious fertility issues 'go on holiday'. I'll also be talking to some well known fertility experts about whether there is anything in going away if you're not necessarily experiencing a problem but just want to increase your chances - whether it's likely to work - and whether the so-called 'procreation vacations' on offer in five star resorts have any merit or are a rip off.
Having said that, there do seem to be lots of women (posted here in evidence) that conceive while away from the stresses or real life. At the least, you're probably more likely to have sex more often.
If Twinklemegan or Babydriver or Youcannotbeserious could contact me by email - it's anonymous - please do. I'd really love to speak or cyberspeak..

Dh and I went away for a long weekend to Loch Lomond for a friend's wedding, our first time away since dd1 was born in 2003- leaving our three children at home. We had been trying to make a decision about having a 4th but we decided on that weekend that actually maybe we should just stick at 3, it was just getting easy and I had lost 3 stone and was free of baby flab.

Ds is due in July, seems we conceived him on that weekend- obviously before we had that chat grin
