Calling Mills & Boon addicts for Channel 4 documentary

Hi there, my name’s Julie. I’m a documentary maker and a fan of romantic fiction. I’m making a documentary that’s going to celebrate the Mills & Boon publishing phenomenon in the year of its centenary. The film will take us into the personal worlds of Mills & Boon novelists and avid readers, to uncover the secrets of Mills & Boon’s enduring success and find answers to the perennial question “What do women really want ?”.

I’d really love to hear from any devoted fans out there, to learn what it is about the books that you love so much and how this passion for M & B’s relates to the rest of your life.

I look forward to hearing from you and telling you more about my project.

All the best

Can't help as I don't read M & B, but what really annoys me is when people talk about Jane Austen as though she wrote romantic fiction. I do not see her in that category at all.

Best of luck, Julie.

Hi Julie

Have you come across this website: www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/?

The format is extremely distracting, but if you dig into it there are well-written, intelligent, thoughtful and funny reviews of romantic novels and commentary on the genre itself. The site also contains links to other sites and blogs.

Are you looking only at books published by Mills & Boon (the fag end of the genre) or all publications within the genre?

There is lots of romantic fiction outside the M&B genre (which tend to be really boring), esp in the US. I tend to get them on job lot from Amazon

Will def check out that website Issy

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
