BBC Documentary re eating disorders and older women

TV company betty have been commissioned by the BBC to produce a film about adult sufferers of anorexia and bulimia. The aim is to feature women / mothers who are in their 30’s, 40’s or older who are underweight, whether it’s a condition they recognize as an eating disorder from earlier childhood or something that’s developed later in life. The premise of the documentary is to ascertain whether women in their 30’s and 40's are now under more pressure to lose weight and be a certain size then perhaps their mothers felt at the same age.

Are you a young / new mum who is underweight? Do you feel the pressure to be a certain shape and size? Has eating been an issue for you for a long time or is it something thats developed later in life e.g after or during pregnancy?

The aim of the programme is to demonstrate how anorexia and bulimia is not just a disease that exclusively targets teenage girls with low self-esteem. According to recent research the increase in eating disorders among older women is phenomenal – whether this is true or whether diagnoses is now more common is something I am looking into as part of my research. Recent studies also suggests a prevalence of eating disorders among pregnant women and new mothers.

I am looking to speak to women who are underweight who would be willing to share their stories and experiences. if this is you or someone you know please contact anoop on 0207 290 0660 or email me at anoop.pandhal@betty.co.uk.

To let you know more, betty is an independent television production company which has been making award-winning documentaries, drama, factual entertainment and formats since 2001. See www.betty.co.uk.
