Young people and public transport
UK Youth Parliament are a registered charity, representing 11-18 year olds in having their voice heard. We represent young people across the whole of the UK. See our website for more info; www.ukyp.org.uk
We are currently doing a consultation into the cost of public transport for young people, and campaigning for national concessionary fares for every young person in full time education.
Mothers are directly affected by the costs of public transport as they are often the ones driving their children/ childrens friends from A to B, or providing the finances for their children to use public transport.
An ultimate goal would be to foster a public transport culture, in which young people were opting for buses and trains because it was cheap, safe and accessible, addressing the wider issues of air quality and climate change.
At this stage we are looking to add the voice of parents to our consultation- we want to know how they feel about the implications of transport costs on young people.
- Does the cost of public transport for young people affect you?
- How much money are you or your partner spending on the travel costs to ensure your children have access to social/sports facilities and education?
- How much does an average return journey of 10 miles cost you in petrol?
