Contact mumsnet about this post From MEDIA: Sunday Telegraph placed on Wed 13-Feb-08 19:48:59
how do you feel about your body?

I am writing a piece for the Sunday Telegraph about mumsnet's survey on body image after pregnancy and child birth.

I would like to interview some mothers who have lost confidence in their bodies since giving birth, especially over things like undressing in the dark, bikinis etc, and those who might consider or have had plastic surgery. I am also looking to talk to those who don't worry about it, or have strong views on the pressure to be a "yummy mummy".

You would need to be prepared to be photographed (fully clothed) to run alongside the piece.

If you are willing to share your views, contact me Laura Donnelly, Sunday Telegraph health correspondent at laura.donnelly@telegraph.co.uk - please make the subject "mumsnet".

Thanks very much - I look forward to hearing from you.

Had a breast reduction last year as my boobs went to a massive 42G after having the kids.

I am happy to pose naked after breastfeeding for two years if i get a pedicure and a haircut thrown in. My body's not that great but I have seen worse!

Thanks to everyone who has got in touch, if there are any other mums who would like to be interviewed on this issue I will be writing the piece next week, so send me an email(laura.donnelly@telegraph.co.uk) and we can fix up to speak.

Thanks also to Elasticwoman for the proof-reading!

I think Laura has snuck in and corrected the original post very slyly without acknowledging her enormous proofreading debt to me.

I've missed something... does it not say fully clothed? am i reading words not there.

Not overly impressed with my various saggy bits, but not desperately upset about it. Although if cold hard cash is involved I feel sure I can be

surely tho if you are not confident about your body now, you wouldn;t agree to beign photgraphed???? (unless it is just mehmm).

I am probably different as I am liking my body better now, but only because I can appreciate it more now, and try to see that the body I hated at 20 I would now love, so tell mysefl each day that I had batter love this body NOW, as when I am 50 I again will wish I had loved it more IYGWIM.

it is strange tho.....my bidy os different now, yet it has done soemting amazing 5 times so even when I look at myself naked and hate myself (which I do do at certain times of the monthwink), even then, I would never change it as that would mean wishing my DC's away in an absurd sense!

good luck on this.

Ah, I see - she's on all fours oiling the cradle!

What is it they say about the hand that rocks the cradle?

MP didn't you post recently about how little sleep you were getting (I remember this because I sympathised as I had had some very disturbed nights?

Now we see that it had nothing to do with your dcs but "other reasons" - doggy position no less. grin

i am a recovering anorexic and i have to say that i am more confident in my body now than i was pre-ds. im in awe of the fact that I managed to carry and give birth to a person. the ana has left me with thin bones and a permanent problem with food, but im happier with my body now, complete with scars than i was.

Oh MP, the only thing I do in the doggy position these days involves crawling around the living room (fully clothed) with DS1 clinging onto my back.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By cadelaide on Wed 13-Feb-08 21:46:28
Washersaurus, I feel the same.
Now I have a reason for that tummy. I think my body's done a fantastic job several times over and I'm more confident about it than ever before, despite being heavier than ever before.

I believe it's pregnancy, not breastfeeding that alters your breasts.

Most men must be ok with the post-partum female body, or there would never be any second babies conceived.

Mines a state, i'm in my mid 20s but feel like i have the body of someone alot older especially after breast feeding for 2 years! My legs are great but it all goes wrong in the middle, im a size 12 but its like dough that oozes into my jeans. My boobs look fantastic in a good bra but out of one they are a saggy mess. I don't get undressed in front of dp, deffo don't walk round naked and feel like a disappointment because i'm so different out of my clothes than in them.

What about when you are doing the thing in doggy position and it is all flapping around in the wind

I don't like that one bit

I was actually thinking about how my body image has changed since having children just the other day.

Although I have a wrinkly tummy and a couple of stretch marks aswell as the extra weight; I actually feel better about my body now than I have ever done.

Lol Mercy! So how much would you do it for??
Mamazon - you sound beautiful from your posts but I am having trouble visualising the backs of your knees. Don't we all have a crease there?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Mercy on Wed 13-Feb-08 21:02:37
lol - if you have lost confidence in your body the last thing you want to do is be photographed for a national publication adn let evryone see you.

Unless there is a significant sum involved [rethinks]

Any one have stretch marks other than in the usual places?
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By morningpaper on Wed 13-Feb-08 20:46:30
I think this needs some real mother's NAKED FLESH actually as well as fully clothed people

I'll offer my freakish wrinkly belly as evidence for the prosecution if you want
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Elasticwoman on Wed 13-Feb-08 20:43:40
Do you mean "fully clothed", Laura?

Tut, you expect better proofreading from the Bellylaugh.
