Birth Plans Scrapped & Unexpected Birth Partners

Hi Mums

It's me again! Milking you (can I really say that!) of your birth experiences for a national parenting magazine!

As usual, I'm up against the clock - so if you can help or know anyone who can please please get in touch. Birth stories now have to be under a year old - maybe I could stretch it a little: but it's orders from the office! Bit unfortunate.

Anyway, two topics to get your teeth into. They are as follows:

_BIRTH PLANS SCRAPPED_
Perhaps:
1)you planned on lots of pain relief and ended up doing it with none
2)you wanted no pain relief but took the whole shebang;
3)you planned a c-section - but the baby came early!
4)you were set for a birthing centre birth, but had to be rushed to hospital.

_UNEXPECTED BIRTH PARTNERS_
perhaps:
1)the father delivered the baby
2)a shop assistant or member of public helped deliver the baby
3)the paramedic ended up being the birthing partner
4)or the next door neighbour!

If you could email me on the address below with just a line or two to sum up your story, that would be wonderful. :0)

Still looking for stories?

Anyone give birth at home without planning to - or in the car? Anyone opt for pain free and end up taking the full drug option?

Are you still after stories? I had to completely change my birth plan and partner when I went into premature labour before DH was back from Iraq. I wasn't allowed the water birth I wanted because DD was prem and as for not wanting to be continuously monitored and on my back, I 1quickly changed my mind when DD's heart rate plummeted. Let me know if you want more details.

Thanks Swaliswan - are you the one who emailed? I might use you for the birth partners one if you are!

Also looking for babies born with lots of hair, teeth, or a baby who was predicted one sex and emerged as the other, or a baby who unexpectedly came bottom-first.... if you know anyone..... please let me know!

I had a planned HB but not exactly the way it was planned! Only in labour 3hrs and baby was delivered by dad as midwives weren't quick enough to get there and one broke down on the way!!

still not sure what the reason was went into hospital friday nite thinkin i had pulled a muscle in my back, the doc checked babies heartbeat said it was fine it probably was a pulled muscle gave me painkillers and said i could go home (which he later regretted) or stay in...which i did. next day i was throwing up so it was decided it was a kidney infection. by sunday i was feeling better but they were a bit concerned babys heartbeat was underactive...by the afternoon they said all was fine and i was expecting to go home next morning. at about 10pm they came to check the heartbeat again and by 11pm the top doc turned up took one look and said right im goin to move you over to delivery where im working so if i decide i need to get him out i can do it quickly!
Sorry?????
so after a few hours watching a heart monitor the decision was made and at 3.25am baby was delivered by caesarean and whisked off to special care!
He was pretty much fine once out had to stay in 3 weeks to grow but now hes a right little chunker!
so big shock and i'd sa its never too early to get prepared cus i had nothing sorted!!

Please keep the birth stories coming.

Any funny ones out there?

Ones with a twist perhaps?
- maybe it was not the sex you were expecting
- maybe the baby had heaps of hair
- was your baby born with teeth!
- was your baby born breech, unexpectedly?

Please help me mums!

Mine not as interesting as others. Had planned on a natural water birth at home but due to a tad excess weight!!!! i had to deliver in hospital! No problem i thought. Packed my music, aromatherapy oils, scented candles and a few magazines i could read when i got bored during contractionsblush!! (i had stupidly believed a nurse who told me i had a high pain threshold). On arriving to hospital after waters broke i wasn't even dilated enough to go to birth suite so popped on ward. And thats when i realised I couldn't even talk let alone read my magazines and i certainly couldn't give a toss about oils, candles or music. I begged for gas & air but told couldn't have it as not yet in delivery suite so had pethadine (2 lots before i got to my room) - then begged them to get me an epidural ASAP. And during the whole labour and birth i didn't take the gas & air out of my mouth (Pity i couldn't bring it home with me!!) And i just love whoever invented the epidural - no pain at all!!

Dear mums, thanks for all your help and support with birth stories. After three years of reading all the oogly bits, gorey bits, fluuff bits an joyful bits, I am now no longer in charge of collating birth stories. :0(

I'll let my successor know of this thread. And I'm sure she'll be nearly as nice as me!

Hope you enjoyed a happy mother's day yesterday. i got a past necklace and a tea-bag from my kids. . . I was, naturally, delighted....
