Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to our Miscarriage Code of Practice recommendations for Alan Johnson, Lord Darzi all other UK health ministers. We've compiled into a list of 10 key recommendations here.
I miscarried in December at 11 weeks and am currently 8.4, so was very sad when the first brown blood came yesterday and booked an early scan today. The baby has a normal heartbeat and is exactly the right size. I'm not sure what to do now. I'm still being sick a lot, so presumably have some hormones. I haven't had recent sex or done recent heavy exercise, or done any of the things that sometimes explain bleeding, and I don't know if I should rest or relax or keep worrying. I assumed, because I got brown blood and light 'feeling' in my uterus last time that it was going to be exactly like last time, but I don't know how to react now. Still worried, more emotional than ever. Any good or bad stories from people who've been in the same situation are appreciated.
A scan with hb and right size for dates is very reassuring.
I've bled on and off all through this pg (now 22wks) and have lost count of how many panics and scans I've had, but for the moment all is fine, and no explanation was ever found for the bleeding (I'm hoping it's over now though!)
I hope this helps, and good luck and sticky vibes! xxx
i am in exactly the same situation at 10 weeks, brown blood started yesterday and a couple of clots also. I had a scan this morning and all is fine but they couldn't explain the bleeding. I am still nervous, but i haven't had any previous misscarage experiance, i am sorry to hear about yours. I'm not surprised you are anxious. I don't have much advice- i don't know how mine is going to turn out yet! but wanted you to know there are at least 2 of us going through the same thing and i understand how scary it is. I started a thread yesterday on pregnancy but am crap at links
Poor you - it is such a stressful thing to happen.
Same thing happened to me throughout my first pregnancy. It all ended up good - my ds is now 12 - I was told it was due to me having erosion. After the pregnancy I was referred and have a cone biopsy which solved the problem. I had the erosion prior to getting pregnant and from what I remember the hormone surge when you are pregnant can make it worst.
Don't know if this is of any help, but hope it might be an explanation.
My bleeding at 8+4 was due to a cervical erosion (harmless), only detected through a transvaginal scan. No further probs, dd 11 months and perfick. Can also bleed at times you would have had a period. 40% of women bleed in the first trimester.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you! Helps so much to talk aloud and be answered! I'm going to look up serendippity's other thread now. Good luck to everyone else in limbo, and thank you very much for the support.
Just echoing everyone here really, it is common to bleed in pregnancy.
I think I read some stat's that say after a HB has been detected the MC rate falls from something like 25% to 3%, so you do have that on your side.
I am sure the doctors told you but brown blood is much less worrying than red, brown means old, so it coul dhave been hiding up there for weeks and weeks and only just come out, red means fresh blood, doesn't have to mean MC, but should be checked out as an emergency.
I have had a MC so can understand how concerned you must be, there is no point in us lot telling you not to worry because you will obviously, but if you can try and do something to relax, whether it's a long bath or a walk or a DVD or something, chocolate's always good for me
Look after you both (Oh god, how cheesy was that?!! )
with my second pregnancy i bled on and off all the way to 39 weeks. it started about 7 weeks, kept stopping and starting and they never found any reason for it. i lost count of the amount of times i had scans and internals during my pregnancy with her! dd was born safe and well at 39 weeks tho and they never found a reason for it.
it's so hard not to think the worse i know, but if you've had a scan and they found a heartbeat the risk of mis-carriage is significantly less.
try and put your feet up, eat cake and not to worry too much (easier said than done i know) xx
Hi EB - had the same thing in my second pregnancy - we'd lost dd1 at 21 weeks, so I was in pieces when I started bleeding at 8/9 weeks. DD2 arrived safe and well 18 months ago, full term, no problems at all. I do know how horrible, sickening and scary it is - you just have to take one day at a time. Try to do little things to help you relax, as NJ said. Good luck!
This pregnancy, I bled at 6weeks for 1.5 weeks brown blood then again at 8.5weeks for 2 days. Had early scans both times, no explanation for the bleeding on the scan.
Interestingly though - the MW told me that the cervix gets very vascular in early pregnancy and vessles can rupture causing bleeding.
