The thing about IVF is you know your dates exactly almost to the minute. After my IVF I had a scan at 6 weeks - everything fine, no heartbeat. Horrible week waiting, scan at 7 weeks, all fine and with a heartbeat. Some clinics scan too early for a heartbeat to be seen as they are checking for ectopic, others wait until 7 weeks which is much better IMO

I had IVF too and although the initial PG test (blood test) was positive the levels were low and I was given hormonal support. My situation was complicated by the fact that I had the IVF in Bangkok but was living in Vietnam. Anyway - on returning to Vietnam and going to doc they scanned every week and for 3 weeks couldn't see anything much although my Hcg levels were going up as they should have been. They were worried about an ectopic so I flew back to Bangkok to see original doc and his machine was much more advanced than the VN one and they were able to see a heartbeat at 7 weeks.

What I am trying to say is it may also be the machine!

Fingers crossed for your friend. It is such an emotional roller coaster.

Mine is now 6.5!

Just to let you know with my 2nd pg I had an early scan. 7 weeks and there was no heartbeat. They told me the heartbeat does not always show until 7 weeks+ and that I might not be as far along as I thought - sac was measuring correctly.

Had to wait 2 worrying weeks to go back and there was the heartbeat and measured exactly right for my original dates.

Hopefully this is the case for your friend but she's going to be very worried waiting.

Thanks loveverona. I don't want to give her false hopes but it seems weird if everything else is growing fine.

Sorry, just read the title! 6.5 weeks is pretty early to see a heartbeat I think - I went at 9 weeks and they said it may be too small to see, so it's possible. Sounds promising if everything else is on target. Fingers crossed for your friend.

How far gone is she? It may be that they couldn't see enough with the standard ultrasound and that she could do with an internal scan if it's very early on...

My very good friend finally got pregnant after her 5th IVF. She had a scan last week and although the growth was correct for the dates there was no heartbeat. Today she just had another scan and still no heartbeat. However the baby has grown normally and her HcG levels are spot on.
Is it doomed?
