Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to our Miscarriage Code of Practice recommendations for Alan Johnson, Lord Darzi all other UK health ministers. We've compiled into a list of 10 key recommendations here.
I have been on here lately because I had a very unusually light period that was two days late, i tested to see if I was pregnant at 2 days overdue and got a faint pos line then after period finished, i got a neg result with 2nd test from the same pack.
I am not sure if the tests were faulty. If I am pregnant then now I would be just under 6 weeks.
Everyday at 3pm I am shattered and have to lie down, I just dont feel myself especially over the last week. I almost fainted twice and had to kneel on the ground.
I went to see gp today and he thinks that I had an early mc and that I am run down.
I am not sure if i did have a mc because I only bled for 3.5 days when I am normally on for 6 days and it was so light that I didnt really need to change my pad on one day.
Surely if I was pregnant then I would have been about 4 weeks and so would have bled for more than three days and it would of been heavy or look different?
Sorry for asking but I have not experienced this before.
I just wondered if there was a chance that I still could be pregnant, I am having a blood test next week for my fatigue and to see if I am pregnant.
did the gp do a test or are you waiting for next week's one? fingers crossed that you are still pregnant, eh? in the meantime keep an eye out for any pains or strange bleeding and shout out on here if you do.
Hi Mimao - hope that things are OK for you. I hope (if that's what you want) that you are pregnant, and this has just been a bit of a peculiar start. I certainly felt tired very early on.
However, if you have had an early mc, the bleeding you had might not have been the actual mc - that might still be to come (some people get periods throughout pregnancy). My latest mc at 5wks was just like a period but late, clotty and heavy (sorry if TMI)
Have you done an hpt since then?
Generally, for tiredness, worth ensuring that you're not anaemic - carob is fantastic at helping with this. You can get carob flour at wholefood shops and it can be used a bit like cocoa but with no need for added sugar as it is naturually sweet - when I needed to boost levels up, I had a teaspoon full with breakfast, and perhaps another in some yoghurt later in the day. Its much better than iron pills and doesn't affect your system adversely like they tend to.
Mistlethrush - thank you for that. will go to my local health food shop.
i do want to be pregnant so much!!!
sorry to hear you suffered a mc at 5 weeks, yours was heavy. that is what i expected if mine was a mc. bit like you say it may yet to come. if i am then I would be six weeks today actually.
could be anything, those. could be from a miscarriage, could be from your womb expanding to keep the pregnancy going or... and this is much less likely than explanations one and two... they could be related to an ectopic pregnancy. now, to be completely clear i am in no way a medical person, it's just i had two of these pregnancies (where the foetus gets implanted in the wrong place and causes problems) so i am hyper-aware of things that looking back might be symptomatic. it's not unheard-of for ectopic pregnancies to rise and fall hormonally because they're not getting a good blood supply, so that sometimes explains the positive/negative tests. there are lots of other explanations as well, though, i promise, so don't panic or anything. just be aware that it might be something to ask the doc about and definitely don't piss about if the pains get worse.
but it really probably is more likely to be one of the first two explanations, really. just be cautious, that's all.
the side can depend on a few things, but yes one of the major symptoms of an ectopic is pain in the tip of the shoulder. however, that's the end-game, you really don't want it to get that far because by the time the shoulder is sore your fallopian tube will likely have ruptured and you will be bleeding internally. that's why it's a good idea to be cautious and if you have a bad feeling ask for a scan at the EPU. you could tell them that you had only light bleeding, are 6 weeks, have had neg and pos tests and some pains in your abdomen, they should hopefully agree to scan you then.
Because i don't know if i am they may feel i am wasting their time.
Maybe I should wait for the result from my blood test because that would definitely tell me if I am pregnant right? Then If I have pain go to the hospital.
Think it takes five days to get results so from giving blood next Tuesday it would be the following Tuesday and I would be 8 weeks - if I am.
You need two blood tests to confirm that you are still pregant: one would just show that you have raised HCG levels (and can still be in the middle of a missed miscarriage) whearea two, taken two days apart, would show that your HCG levels are rising as anticipated.
Most maternity units have an EPU and most will allow self referrals - although they prefer docotr referrals.
You could go via A&E, quoting your tingling shoulder and finger pain, couple with stomach cramps and some bleeding. or talk to NHS Direct.
hi ((((((((((((((mimao)))))))))))))), i had bleeding very early on when i was pg with dd, i rang the hopsital directly and explained the situation to them and they asked me to visit for an early pg scan (this was at 6wks i think). it may well be worth you either speaking to your gp again or seeing another gp or ringing epu directly and asking them if you have scan to check. don't worry about you wasting their time, just ring, explain how you are feeling.
where i work no epau will take self refferals , infact i am amazed any do, surely they are swamped with anxious ladies wanting scans to check up on things...don't mean to sound harsh but cannnot understand why you don't go along to boots and get a home preg test, from what you have said you really do not sound like you have an ectopic.a few twinges in early pregnancy are quite normal and if you are not pregnant then you would be roughly 2 weeks into your next cycle and they could be ovulation pains.
I think so too, i would not go unless gp suggested. i bet they get many mums turning up.
My gp does not think I am pregnant now, he thinks i had a mc but searching on the net and reading other peoples stories everyone else seems to of have experienced alot more bleeding and not such a light one.
Reading up on implantation bleeding, it said the blood looks brownish or pink. my blood was normal red, brownie red at times.
Maybe it was a freak light period, i got an evaporation line that gave me poss result and me almost fainting and feeling so exhausted is because i am run down - deep breath!
I was going to get a test myself but because i'm getting the blood test nest week i thought they are better then the shops tests.
MiMao - I would get another test as you don't get the result until next week. If its positive, you can ring the Doctor again and ask about the pains etc and say that you're worried that it might be a problem. If its negative , more likely not to be such good news, but at least you won't be quite so wound up until you get your test results. Main thing is, look after yourself.
i had an implantaion bleed with dd2 it was dirty brown discharge for 48 hrs, i could n't understand why my period didn't follow and it took 3 more days for me to realise! hope yours is one too....
Maybe it is jsut thsoe who have already had a full blown missed miscarriage who can self refer to the EPU
BTW - it is possible to get a positive pregannacy test even after the missed miscarriage has occured: it happened to me, when I stopped "feeling" pregnant (boob fairy not arriving, tiredness going away...), took a test, still postive and then a week or so later (supposedly 11 weeks) find that the preganancy had stopped at 7 weeks.
and until the OP posted that she'd done another neg test, mummydoc, you'd have ABSOLUTELY no way of ruling out an ectopic, although countless doctors would (and would comfort themselves that most of the time they'd be right, as i said earlier).
however in doing so they'd have endangered the lives and future fertility of women all over the country. happens all the time, wrecks lives on a daily basis.
i'm truly shocked and appalled that you'd be so unprofessional as to post under a name like mummydoc and yet give such dangerously high-handed advise on the basis of what someone has posted on the internet. well, i say i'm shocked, but to be honest on the subject of ectopic pregnancy the cavalier attitude of doctors never fails to amaze.
at that early in pregnancy it would have been a light bleed. i ahd a m/c at 5 weeks and it was a large clot and a period. a pregnancy that has not progressed when the egg has not implanted is a chemical pregnancy which is what you may have had. have you taken a pregnancy test yet?
Sorry for the news MiMao - you still need to take it easy though- I hope that the blood test comes back with something that explains why you're feeling so tired.
I had a very early mc at 4 weeks, pos test 2 days before bleed, neg test 2 days after, it was normal bleed, no heavier than period usually is. If you had pos test now gone neg it probably was very early mc. Chin up, you might be ovulating again about now
We are not actually ttc, we will be early next year.
I would love to now but dh not ready yet.
So if I was now then I would of been very happy.
I know its not that long away and it makes more sense to wait with whats going on in our lives right now.
I just wish the gp took my blood tests the day when I went to see him this week, making me wait a whole week and then 5 days for results is rubbish.
Today at 3.30pm I had to lie down on the bed and talk to dd's in room, i just came over exhausted and could not do anything for an hour the i pulled myself up to make their dinner. I am white as a ghost.
Its not right, I have no energy to play or take them out. I hope there is nothing seriously wrong with me. I have never felt this tired except when pregnant, the tests were neg so I am feeling that this for some other reason.
I have been eating extra healthy, taking vitamins, smoothies, beetroot juice so I just hope I am run down and will feel better very soon.
mimao, are you and miomao the same poster? [[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/49/506495?stamp=080403103117 ]] i don't understand, have you already had an ectopic pregnancy?
no - i just use the name mimao. i didn't know there was a poster with that name.
... just read the post, fingers crossed for her that it is not ectopic.
i feel i may just be anaemic.
i have never felt this shattered even my life even in the early weeks with babies.
today at work I just wanted to curl up and cry i felt so tired and sorry for myself.
my friend asked me if the gp took my blood pressure and other checks when I went this week and he didnt do anything just listened to what i said and then told me to book blood tests in a weeks time which i did and now i have to wait.
i just get scared and worry what could make me feel so tired. i thought about urine infections but i would have smelly wee and go a lot which i already do since 2 kids!
