The only girl's name me and DH both seem to like - but I can't think of a middle name which works with it. Eg Catherine Rose (my first choice, but DH doesn't like Catherine) works well, but Rose Catherine just doesn't really roll off the tongue. Any suggestions?

Rose doesn't seem to work with a middle name..but Rosie would

I really like it . Shame it's relegated to a middle name most of the time - I think Rose Catherine sounds very classy grin

Rosa is also very pretty.

Rose is very pretty (and much better than Rosa, which reminds me of cleaning ladies blush).

Rose Catherine is all right... Catharine is my middle name and I don't think it's very exciting.

Rose Hermione? Rose Georgina?

but you never say the full name anyway. how many times will you say Rose Catherine? hardly ever. go for it.

Rose Jemima?

Rose Gabrielle

I think you need a hard vowel sound after the soft 's' and soemthing long as contrast.

Trying hard to thik of others.

Actually, ignore the hard vowel sound as Rose Elizabeth sounds lovely as well.

Rose Catherine is beautiful and classy and agree that you never really say the whole name after the first few weeks when you're telling people their name anyway.

My DS2's names are lovely but sound a but silly when you use the diminutive of both (like Tommy Johnny grin) but we didn't realise that at the time and obviously don't call him that anyway!

Rose is lovely. After a single syllable first name, I think four syllables sound good for a middle name. How about Elizabeth, Olivia, Amelia or Isabella?

kitty rose?

rose is dd1's mn and she is Ella Rose smile

My middle name is Rose but I was named after my father's mother whose real name was Rosina. My DF forgot to tell my mother this though which is why I have the shortened version.

Anyway, Rosina Catherine is very pretty imo and you can still call your DD Rose for short.

Rose Isabel/Isobel?
Rose Olivia?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By lynn1 on Fri 16-May-08 12:00:40
Rose Amelia
Rose Eliza
Rose Augusta
Rose Anastasia

basically I think many names with 3 or more syllables might work, depending on your surname.

Rosario? Roisín?
We have an Elizabeth Rose in our family.
And my DD's second name is Rose - with a 3 syllable first name.
Catherine is lovely as Kitty, or Kit, or Catrióna.
So Rose Kitty / Catherine sounds lovely.
like your MN name! Kitty seems to be a theme?

I love Rose, and I like some of these other cominations suggested here (Rose Elizabeth sounds lovely). However ,don't forget to look at her initials too, especially if you have a middle name starting with a vowel. grin

Rose Sophia
Rose Francesca
Rose Ayesha
Rose Maya
Rose Ella
Rose Elena
Rose Clara
Rose Antonia
Rose Alexandra
Rose Alicia
Rose Beatrice
Rose Mae/Maeve
Rose Martha
Rose Florence
Rose Caterina for variation on Catherine?

Possibilities are endless; agree it sounds better with longer middle name

Thank you - glad people like Rose as a first name anyway, was worried it might be a bit, well, short! Funnily enough I had thought Rose Catherine and Rose Elizabeth sounded a bit odd - I must be imagining it as people seem to like them! I quite like Rose Hermione.

I love the name Rose, especially as a first name.

I like it with a slightly unusual (though not weird) middle name:

Rose Amadea
Rose Violetta
Rose Saphira
Rose Luciana
Rose Amaranta
Rose Alessandra

I think Rose is a beautiful name. Very under-used as a first name.

Re a middle name for Rose, i think it needs to begin with a vowel:

Rose Isabella
Rose Alicia
Rose Eliza
Rose Amelia
Rose Alexandra
Rose Elizabeth
Rose Alexia
Rose Imogen
Rose Olivia
Rose Antonia
Rose Evelyn
Rose Arielle
Rose Emma
Rose Amber
Rose Eva

smile

I have an Elana-Rose (all one name and no middle name) and we use it in full nearly all the time, obviously she gets her surname tacked on when she is naughty grin

ds would have been rose, it is a lovely charming name.

do not understand middle name worries, never use mine nobody knows what it is (apart from half mn who also have jane as middle name). i think it is a good opportunity to use family names and be sentimental.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By WhatSheSaid on Fri 16-May-08 22:28:10
Rose is a great first name and, as others have pointed out, is used a lot as a middle name but not so much as a first name.

I really liked it for dd but as we have a one syllable surname we went for a longer first name...with Rose as the middle name of course!
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By bluenosesaint on Fri 16-May-08 22:30:20
I use my dd's middle names all the time and to me they are just as important as their first names.

They love their middle names and use them all the time too - they see it as an extention of their first names. In fact, my dd2 went through a spell where she would only respond if you called her by her middle name grin
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By dylanthecat on Fri 16-May-08 22:30:21

bluenose that is really sweet. did you choose the names with that in mind, or did it just happen?
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By bluenosesaint on Fri 16-May-08 22:37:46
Yes fishie, i chose the names with that in mind. They have two names each and their middle names are equally as beautiful as their first names (IMO of course wink)

They are very comfortable being called by either name, and of course the fact that they love their names is a bonus grin
