well I thought Shakespeare too, even though I have a moth phobia <shudder>

I LIKE the name Jethro too

No, 20 week (or 22+4 but who's counting? hmm) scan tomorrow grin (so hope LO's feeling cooperative/exhibitionist!)

Are you having an elective then?

All the very best in that case. I find boys names tricky but I have three boys all with, um, uncommon names. I would be terrified to reveal them to the MN massive.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By RainyWednesday on Thu 15-May-08 23:59:34
duchesse surely her middle name would have to be Balls?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By RainyWednesday on Thu 15-May-08 23:58:50
No Roedean here - though if it helps our kids will probably be teased for wearing secondhand clothes, not being allowed a telly and having wood-burning central heating grin

(and for perspective, their dad is the Jethro who's name was so roundly trashed yesterday!)
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By duchesse on Thu 15-May-08 23:58:00
With "Clothes" as a middle name?

Even "Clove" would do actually.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By WendyWeber on Thu 15-May-08 23:56:33
Honeysuckle Weeks has managed OK (mind you she went to Roedean...)

Spidermama this bun is still firmly in the oven and we won't know the flavour for ooh <checks watch> another ten hours and ten minutes grin

I was thinking of putting our favourite boy's name on here but DH would rather we decide for ourselves
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Spidermama on Thu 15-May-08 23:53:48
But Butterfly did she go to school with that name? I always think that if people can get through the school bit, they'll be really glad they have an unusual name. It seems to be the school bit which people are phobic about, which is sad as school is only a small part of life in the grand scheme of things.

and what is wrong with an insect name? smile

check out my profile - i am for real you know!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Spidermama on Thu 15-May-08 23:40:54
Quite right. I wouldn't dream of sharing names with anyone on MN. Especially when you've already named you child so it's too late.

No moth is a really cool second name and particularly lovely with the family connection. I would utterly go with that.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler on Thu 15-May-08 23:40:13
I did suggest Snout for a boy way back there...although I think I meant Snug...blush what, not interested? wink
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By RainyWednesday on Thu 15-May-08 23:38:46
I'm glad someone thought Shakespeare and not phobias! I was thinking of it originally as a middle name

I know a Tabitha - really don't like the name, sorry blush

I'm not sharing my boys' names :p (well, I was going to, but DH said no!)
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Spidermama on Thu 15-May-08 23:37:23
I agree. Great middle name and perfectly justified as a tribute to your grandmother.

I know a girl with the middle name 'Moon' and it gets used within the family. Really lovely. Suits her.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By hatwoman on Thu 15-May-08 23:35:59
I know a Tabitha
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By ravenAK on Thu 15-May-08 23:34:59
I immediately thought as in Midsummer Night's Dream tbh.

Would make a great middle name esp. if family nickname. Probably a bit much as a first name!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler on Thu 15-May-08 23:33:21
You are a very good sport RainyWednesday
And those are lovely reasons for choosing an unusual name
What are you thinking of if it is a boy, then...
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By RainyWednesday on Thu 15-May-08 23:31:27
Don't worry, I'm not sure I've ever had a thread get to two pages before wink

I am serious-ish - I like it as a name but already have a couple of girls' names lined up so would have to have a lot of daughters before I used it (and I have an inkling this LO is a boy).

With my grandmother it was apparently short for mother.

I'm not taking people who approved of Tabitha all that seriously wink

I like it as a nickname, I must say - suggestive of something rather etherial (sp), mysterious, feminine.

But I think it's a tough one as your given name (& I quite like 'unusual' names)
Sorry smile

Butterfly is better it's the old would you rather be a butterfly for a day or a moth for a lifetime thing...

I have a male friend who answers to the name of Goo, can't even remember why........we are soooo old. grin

But that is ok, because it is amongst friends. It is not on any official documents.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Spidermama on Thu 15-May-08 23:28:10
Aw sorry wednes. There's been a piss take name theme so people thought you were adding to it.

I think as a nickname (your grandmother is known by it) its probably really nice. Unusual names always seem so much more acceptable, cool, charming etc when they are established.

MNers famously have conservative tastes in names. Don't let it get to you.

Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By RainyWednesday on Thu 15-May-08 23:24:29
Ouch hmm

I was shopping online.

It's the name my grandmother is known by, so it has pretty good connotations for me.

Come back Wednesday. Were you serious? I think at this late hour you can't expect to get away with Moth. And I'm the one who staunchly defends unusual names normally.

To be fair I have had a life long phobia of moths.

Ah, now, my dad apparently quite seriously suggested I be called Drusophela (sp) - the latin for fruitfly - as he thought it 'sounded lovely'. My mother thankfully vetoed it.

Really really don't like Moth, but there again, I have a bad phobia about small flying things like, err... moths......... so it doesn't conjure up good images for me.

Quite like Carpet Beetle... I think that's really quite appropriate.... grin Less common than Rug Rat............

My mother is right, there should be a law against parents saddling their children with names that are best an affectation and at worst 100% pure self indulgence.
