My friend's brother has just named his baby Jethro and the surname is Toal. Jethro Toal. No kidding.

Was the alter ego of my ex-husband when he had too much to drink. Not a pleasant guy so I have to say no.

Horrible name - sorry. Reminds me of the band Jethro Tull - loads of hair and a bit grubby!!

Yes! Round here people still come into town in a horse-drawn carriage (well, one lady anyway!). Where I grew up was a lovely little village but that's where the new town is being built which is why we all got out. Especially with the airport expanding.

It seems that the name Jethro is a bit more acceptable down here

Beanie - sorry for hijacking your thread - call your baby Jethro adn then move to Devon - you'd be welcomed with open arms here grin.

Wilf is a lovely name, it was one of my possibilities but DH didn't think it went well with our surname.

BigBadMouse - I am in Okie Only for the last four weeks or so though! My family have all moved up around here too, although they're slightly further north. Exeter feels so big and metropolitan now, especially with the new shopping centre bit.

How about Seth? or Caleb?

I really love the name Roscoe too.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By BigBadMouse on Wed 14-May-08 17:26:25
heffa - are you near Okie then? Exeter is very southerly

Laidbackinengland - I think it's a very good name but I can't have it for various reasons. I want Isaac, I will have Isaac (somehow hmm). I just need to talk DH round to it since he told his dad and his dad said 'You can't call him that! (after saying it was a nice name 2 years ago angry). In the meantime, I think I need to post a thread on here!

BigBadMouse - it was the name Jethro that made me open the thread! It clearly attracts rural types

Hartland's beautiful! I live just north of Dartmoor. It feels quite north to me because I grew up east of Exeter. I'm loving it up here so far though, and looking forward to visiting the north Devon beaches more in the summer (the not-so-touristy ones).

laidbackinengland - Really??? Hartland's nice IMO. Is your friend from Woolfardisworthy by any chance? Funnily enough I have been snubbed by a few people becasue I decided against sending my DD1 to her designated school in September and have sent her to a different village's school shock (makes I laugh it does!)

Furthest school I looked at towards your way was Morwenstow after that we need to go through immigration I believe....

definitely think of that rascist west country comedian. I think of Jethro Tull too, but would agree with the "hippyish and travelly" pronouncement.

Fab quote Seeker - I love that book and film!

It does make me think of Jethro Tull but I think it could be quite a cool name!

And I live near North Devon (well, north West Devon) too!

Despite being a great NCIS fan and my love for the character that Mark Hammond ( I think) plays, which is called Jethro...the name always reminds me more of Beverly Hillbillie's Character, lol...so....not a name I am personally to keen on, sorry...

laidbackinengland I would love to know your favourite boys names then. Sounds like we have similar taste in names and DH and I can't agree on one for DS1 who is due on Sunday.

Jethro is cool but I think it helps if you like somewhere rural like I do (there are a few Jethro's around here grin)
