DP and I can't agree on a girls name, we have a boys name picked but a girls name is difficult.

Before DS was born we decided on Lucy if he was a girl, but obv didn't use it as he was a boy.

Now DP wants Lucy for this baby too but I really like Lily more.

I actually really want Connie but he said NO and no amount of pleading/sulking has changed his mind.

Should I push for Lily or let him have his way?? He also likes Anya, is that better?

Depends where you live - where I used to live Lilly was shortened to Lils which is also a slang word for tits!

My daughter is called Lily (we didnt mix with parents before we got pregnant) and I kind of regret calling her it, its lovely but very very popular indeed esp here in the south west x

Not heard of any one caled Lily or Lucy for as long as I can remember. I quite like them both but prefer the spelling Lillie. Not keen on Anya sounds like something from a 1970's space series.

Lily - aaaaargh Lily Allen, find her totally repulsive and can't get beyond that

Really like Lucy, and if I didn't actually know a couple of repellent ones in RL, it would have made my shortlist

Far too many Lily's around now. She would probably end up having several in the class. Lucy is lovely.

I like Lily. I wanted Lily for dd2, but dh said he thought it was too old-fashioned. I still really like it though smile

Lucy and Lily are both gorgeous but if I had to make choice it would be Lucy (short is Lou, Lulu, Luce, all v sweet), plus have known 3 Lily's over the years and they were all super-cute but very feisty!!

I liked the name Lucy until dd was bullied by one. Now can't hear the name without seeing her nasty sneering face!
Lily is pretty
Layla and Lola are nice too.

Lucy was our girls name, I love it, think it is feminine but strong at the same time. We had DS2 so didn't get to use it!

Anya, Lily, Lucinda (Lucy).
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By gomez on Mon 12-May-08 20:19:49
Lillian - hence she can be Lily, short for Lillian but have a different name from all the other Lilys if she/you do desire.

An approach I wish I had taken...........smile

Or Liliana, could be shortened to Lily or Anna...

love lily and I like 'Lucie' spelt this way a bit more unusual.

I like Lucy and Lucia
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By chutneymary on Mon 12-May-08 21:02:42
I have a Lucy and it's such a gorgeous name. I have no regrets.

I like Lily too, but there are so many Lilys round here. Lucy is supposed to be really popular too, but I don't know any little ones (the only one I do know is my neighbour in her 50s).

If you are worried about the number of them, you could always go for Lucinda and just call her lucy.

Be warned though - she is constantly Lulu and Luce to us. Every time I call her Luce, I can feel my mother shudder! If that bothers you as a NN, choose something else!

I like both Lucy and Lily; very pretty names.

Not keen on Connie, sorry.

I actually prefer the spelling Lucie rather than Lucy too.

Def Lucy but not spelt Lucie.

Our DD1 is Lillian which is shortened to Lulu. (Named, in both long and short versions, after the mother of one of my friends).

Gosh I dont know any Lilys, but I do love the name as it was my grandmothers.

DS2 would have been Lily if he were a girl.

lucy...

I know lots and lots of lilly/lillies

I love Lily, very contemporary it's true but it is a gorgeous name.
I prefer it to Lucy.

Not hugely keen on Anya, it's a bit close to Enya for me and Connie makes me think too much of that Maria lass! But you need to love it! my dh and I can't agree on boys names at all.... it's quite stressful!
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By Nyx on Mon 12-May-08 22:19:16
I like Lily and Lucy; my dd is Lucy - I didn't know a single Lucy when I was growing up and it was always going to be my first choice name. However, now I have named dd Lucy, I know of (at least) four others - two of them go to the same childminder; also, I'm constantly hearing children being called it in the park and in the street. Argh - how did this happen! However, it's still a gorgeous name imo. I hadn't thought of Lucinda - I love lulu and might try calling her that as a pet name - at the moment she's poppet and probably thinks that is her name blush

Oops, sorry, haven't answered OP's question! Hmmm - I think you should push for Lily - reason being, he won't let you have Connie, you don't want Lucy any more, so perhaps Lily would be the compromise? (Plus, you really like it, and it is a gorgeous name grin)

My dd is Lucy and have yet to come across another Lucy nearby, though know 3 under 5s called Llly.

I prefer Lucy to Connie, Anya and Lily. But then I would wink

Lucy Lucy lucy - but then i am a little biased. Lilly was on our short list, but my mum is superstitious about lillies (dont ask me why)and i thought lilly might get shortened to lil.

Lucy is the patron saint of light grin so its a very positive name

How bizarre Lucyellensmum!

It's still my favourite name, and suits her so well.We shorten it to Lulu, Luce and sometimes Lucylastic (it makes her laugh).
