Tarquin Octavia Arrabella Araminta

don't reallt think any of the names you have suggested are posh!! I guess we are all different. Caspar is nice but just reminds me of 'the friendliest ghost!!' Ralph? Rupert? I once nannyed for 2 boys called Edgar and Humphrey.
It's "tolumee")
Mungo and Hector? As witnessed in park yesterday, thought they were quite posh.
i still read your name as south east asia
Yes I knew a Mungo too. Hector?! I used to ride a pony called Hector.
it's the same as califi said, it's a werid surname
Hector was about 3, bless him, and did NOT want me to help him down from the climbing frame. I think it's a name he'll grow into.

Giles
we've got a Hector in preschool but he's latino and reff as feck as they'd say in Cardiff. His bro's called Julio Cesar! Finty is posh.
Finty? hey?! How about Otis?
Bathsheba Penelope (as in Thunderbirds, not Pittstop) Embarrassing name... Willy (has that already been done)
Otis? No not posh.
Virginia Tamara Rupert Julian Miriam

Venetia StJohn [pronounced sinjon] Algernon
OMG DD2's name is on that other thread
I wondered about Miriam - the little girl who was talking to us over my parents' wall yesterday has a friend called Miriam and she (wall-lurking little girl) was rather posh so I dare say Miriam is too. Jonty? Proper name or nickname. Definitely posh.
People really call their kids Ptolemy? Why? He was a Greek astronomer/astrologer who lived in 1st century AD. How on earth did his name became a name for posh English boys?
well he's a character in shakespeare innit (ptolemy that is) ant and cleo..
Oberon is a v posh name. The president of the lesbian and gay society at my university was called Oberon.

Camilla Octavia Jemima Imogen Hugh Hugo Giles Barnaby Rory ....all names I think of as being a bit 'plummy'
Excuse my ignorance, but in which Shakespeare play was there a 'Ptolemy'? And was it the Ptolemy (astronomer/astrologer in 1st century AD) or was it another guy by the same name?
aquilla (sp?) is posh for a boy. Ptolomy will always be posh -and I will always insist on saying it with a p. I think Claudia is a bit posh, but lovely. Margo is posh. I also love Martha.
oh lordy none of the rory's I know are posh, certainly not up here in scotland
Imogen and Jemima isnt' posh around here anymore.
Imogen and Jemima isnt' posh around here anymore.
There are Raiff(sp?) and Boris at DSs nursery which always make me smile! Boris looks like a little bruiser and Raiff is a weedy little thing!

Is Theo posh really? does that mean Thea is too?
nah, Thea is just Gorgeous!
Thea is a georgous name, but my DC's would say Fea! Peregrine (sp?)is posh, as is Hermione.
It's funny to read what people calss as a 'posh' name and what is not! Jemima and Imogen are quite popular around here. Where do some people get some of these names from? How about Pandora and Jeanie (or Genie?) Bertie?
By
hatrick on Mon 12-May-08 21:14:07
Lynette my dd2 says Fea but dd3 says Seeeaaa in a very French way
Ginty and Alicia sound quite posh I think.
We have a "Tolemy" at DD's nursery, and he certainly isn't posh
had this convo last time i was proper drunk, over a year ago. fond memories. proper sea going posh we all decided = any king, emporer, queen from europe, roughly anytime before america was discovered. william henry eleanor magnus margaret isabel marie jeanne blanche joan anne mary elizabeth of course, louis lambert hugh think i'll go and have a cup of tea now
I know 2 Hectors aged under 3 - not terribly posh, but quite arty parents...
India Savannah Ra (and other gods)
Think it might have been Antony and Cleo Cote
Ptolomy was her dad not the bloke who wrote histories..i think
Twinkie1, I think Raiff/Rafe is spelled Ralph when you are posh. And Ralph is pronounced Ralf when you're not.
There is a Ptolemy Dean who is an architect/TV bod who has an artist sister called Tacita - now THERE'S posh!
By
Pen74 on Mon 12-May-08 22:00:14
Theo is definitely not posh round these parts (quite the opposite). Rory, Imogen and Miles aren't either. Tarquin & Horatio are definitely posh!
By
yurt1 on Mon 12-May-08 22:09:29
I like Ptolemy the architect bod. Julian isn't posh! Edgar and Humphrey are posh though.
Jonty and Rollo. And hasn't Cate Blanchett called her little boy something strange like Alphonsius or something?
Rupert definitely (can you imagine surviving a normal school called Rupert . . .). Tarquin too by the same argument.
Also Piers - I lived in a Spanish village once which had two Piers (Piers's?) living there, both had been at Eton (plus an ex-Harrow bloke, but he was called David).
I think the locals had a slightly strange idea of what was normal for the English
Definitely Jonty Tarquin Octavia Araminta Hubert...
Hugh not so post in Scotland ("Shug/Shuggie").
Percival?
Horace (though a great name for cat
).
Or posh , even...
jonquil jonty annabella tarquin (dh's choice) Farquad-Remmington-Smythe-Davies (once again DH's suggestion)
Ptolomy is very posh. Also Rupert Humphrey Godfrey Maximillian (never shortened) Cuthbert Edgar Edmund Quentin Oswald Gideon Ignatius (step forward cate Blanchette) Julius Caspar Augustus Octavius Horatio Cassius Jocasta Cordelia Calpurnia any classical goddesses/nymphs (Juno, Io,) Fenella Anastasia Augusta Imogen and Jamima def no longer posh
Miranda Augustus Hughie Boris Cornelius Marmaduke Persephone Pamdora
Candida Malaky Cordelia
Candida?
Not the one I knew.
Cornelius.
Flavia.
Cornelius? Not the Corny I grew to know and love. He was a scally.
Hortense
Tuppy
Barnabus
Tuppy is so adorable but is it a real name?
How did Muhammad Ali get to be a posh boy? He started out as a Cassius, didn't he? Surely no-one would call their child Calpurnia?! Though if shorted to Nia it would be OK... But sounds too medicinal, like Calpol. Same goes for Malaky, sounds too like malarky...
Snort at 'Tuppy'.
