What do you think of the girl's name Kerensa/Kerenza (can't decide on the spelling)? I know this is a Cornish name (meaning - love) but was wondering if it was still popular in Cornwall or is it considered old fashioned/common? It will be either this or Katharine, I just can't decide.
Fishie are you known as Katharine or do you shorten it? Our dd3 has a name which can derive from Katharine [but is also a name in its own right and has been for about a century]
I quite like Carenza with a C but not keen on the spellings you list. Reminds me of the archaeologist Carenza Lewis from Time Team ... which may not be quite the image you're looking for!
I was thinking of Katharine with a K just in case we end up shortening it to Katie. But we probably won't as we named DD1 Elizabeth with the intention of shortening it to Libby but we just got used to calling her the full name Elizabeth and never did shorten it. In my book of Celtic names Karensa/za is spelt with K - haven't seen it listed with a C before, just as well because of the Italian meaning.
what's your surname like lizzielu - katharine is quite a long name, will it balance ok?
and are you already considering diminutives, if so then kitty is lovely. not kath pls. or kathy (horrors). kate or katie or even better katy are allowed.
i do think if it is going to be with a k then should be katharine, catherine for a c.
I have met a few Kerensas (not surprising in Cornwall) but haven't heard of anyone naming a baby that for a while.. It usually gets shortened to Renz round these parts - make of that what you will..
I like Kerensa, but I'm Cornish, so recognise it as a definitely-not-made-up name. I wouldn't use it, though, because of the Italian meaning, but I am unusual in being a Cornishwoman who uses Italian on a daily basis!
Not madly keen on any...Katharine is a good solid name but not particularly thrilling. However, inifinitely preferable to a made-up name. Kerenza does sound like Carenza ( lacking or missing something/ deficiency) in Italian but it would sound a little more interesting -if you have Cornish roots.
I went to school with a girl called Karenza. Took me about 3 months after starting there to actually remember her name though! I'd never heard it before and kept forgetting lol!
Katherine. I have a Katherine, and don't know of any other children katherines (iyswim). I like the fact that there are loads of pet names you can use with it. I think it is solid and classy. Only thing to consider is the spelling, we went for Katherine (with the e) because there seemed to be more merchandise for Katherine with the e as opposed to the a. It might not bother you, but it bothered me as a child, so I wanted to use the traditional spelling (which according to most books is with the e, although I have read others that do specify the a!).
