I think it is quite a harsh name, but then I like 'pretty' names for girls and strong names for boys so I suppose I am quite traditional and boring.

not harsh,it's lovely,like Blithe spirit

The place name is 'Blyth' actually....no 'e' wink
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By CarGirl on Sun 18-May-08 16:35:28
Yes but it's like the "Beverly/Beverley" they are both derived from the place Beverley aren't they?
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By NotABanana on Sun 18-May-08 16:36:37
I think it sounds like a quaint, old fashioned name.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By Wezzle on Sun 18-May-08 16:41:27
I have no idea Cargirl but I went to school with a girl called Beverley Blythe
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By CarGirl on Sun 18-May-08 16:45:12
Wezzle - LOL!!!!!!!!!!! My parents are from Blyth so has a lot of happy childhood memories from there but also I lot of sadness and seeing family in poverty when Bates shut and during the strikes. I cried when I went ans saw the minehead gone and also a similar time they knocked down the old fire station and houses where my Dad was born sad

Hence not my choice of name!

Beverly is the American version of Beverley so perhaps Blythe is the american version of Blyth

I stand by my view that any name - apart maybe from Beverley - which can be found in the AA Book of the Road is a no-no.
