Oh, I know......like our Aaron just looked like an Aaron in the end and not a Joshua etc. Just good to have something in mind though after all the being unsure
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Crystaltipsandalaistar on Tue 03-Jun-08 22:36:44
But just remember that you might choose a name and he may not look like he should be called a 'Billy' or 'Joshua'. I had Jake lined up, and he looked nothing like a 'Jake' when he was born - it really threw me! After a nameless few days up popped 'Callum' from nowhere, because he looked like thats what he should be! Suits him to a t!

Thanks for all your help ladies We're down to Joshua or Billy but most probably Joshua (which is what our Aaron was going to be called 5 yrs ago til dh mentioned Aaron instead). Just need to think of middle names that go now

woops didn't see that there was a third page blush

on your new list i like Joshua

My favourite is Rhys (spelt like that - dislike reece) and i think it sounds nice next to Aaron (sorry having twins - top of our list what names sound like together lol)

however i agree that really rhys is only really nice in reality if you're welsh

Elvis's twin who was stillborn was called Jesse - kind of goes with Aaron I think - don't know if you want so much of an Elvis theme though.

Ooh, tricky one. I like Billy most I think (though I would always give a formal name on bc) but Joshua def goes best with Aaron.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By bikerunski on Sun 01-Jun-08 22:13:05
Joshua seems to go best with Aaron. Both biblical. I knew one and he was lovely, even as a teenager! Also, he was never known as Josh. His nn was surname based.

Hulababy - I'm the same and don't like Josh for short
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By looneytune on Sun 01-Jun-08 12:53:27
I'm not sure on the Max thing re: full name, it's not my favourite personally.

Joshua is one that I had down 5 yrs ago when we went through all this with ds1.

As for Billy, we like it as 'Billy' so would probably keep it as that on the birth certificate.

Oh, decisions, decisions!!! hmm Problem this time is it's MY choice and I'm sooooooo indecisive, especially when hormonal!! grin
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By Hulababy on Sun 01-Jun-08 12:49:32
From you new list I like Max and Joshua. I prefer Joshua of the two, but don't like the shortning Josh.

Would you use a longer version of Max for his birth ceetificate?
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By CantSleepWontSleep on Sun 01-Jun-08 12:47:22
Would you use Max and Billy as nns but give them a 'full' name, or would those be their full names?
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By looneytune on Sun 01-Jun-08 08:22:10
I'm back and still struggling!!

We've now scrapped the other list and wondering about these names and also looking for more ideas:

Billy
Miles
Joshua
Max

Remember surname begins with C and ds is called 'Aaron' and we'd like it to sound ok with that iykwim.

3 weeks to due date and we're starting to worry a bit about our indecisiveness blush

Definitely not any name with K, such as Kie, Kyle, Kay and all the possible variations. Please!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By MadBadandDangeroustoKnow on Thu 15-May-08 22:55:05
Am boring traditionalist when it comes to baby names. My first ports of call have always been kings and queens of England, the bible and classic literature. To that list I would now add classical mythology and ancient history, so Brownie points for Marcus.

Max is OK, I think, although round here it is (with Oscar) so common that it's the James of the 2000s. Christian only works if you are. The rest are (to my view) the names that Hello magazine stalwarts give their children and should carry a health warning.

My friend has a little boy called Austin, she picked it as an alternative to Oscar which they both loved but felt was too popular. I'm not mad about Austin as a name but it really suits her ds and shortens nicely to Oz.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your honest opinions, it's very useful I've been PMSL about all the negative comments to 'Phoenix' and it's helped me explain to dh that we just can't have that name!! wink

He's now come up with another name that I'm hoping you'll comment on so I can make him see sense.....Austin - please help me out here!! grin

Thanks again

Marcus and Max both great
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By ElizabethBeresfordSW19 on Sat 10-May-08 20:12:06
Marcus is a great name, a roman classic.

Christian is quite nice too, but it 'nails your colours to the mast somewhat' iykwim. Definitely not a jewish child then? I don't like that it narrows that down. But that's perhaps a very silly personal quirk.

Rhys does nothing for me but there's nothing wrong with it.

Phoenix is slightly ridiculous.

Max is a great name. Very popular, but still great.

Kie?? Please no.

Big wave to sophie and Looney !!

Having problem with names too, esp boys keep checking these threads regularly, so not really any help.

What about Lucas if dh likes Marcus. Not keen on Phoenix.

Like I said no help really. I like Nathan and Zach but dh doesn't like either although only alternative he has given me is Brock (think he was an aussie racing driver) men eh!!

Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Tommy on Fri 09-May-08 11:10:39
I think it has to go with Aaron which is a lovely "old" name so Kai and the others wouldn't IMO

Max is very common at the moment (as in a lot of them!)

Rhys is very definitely Welsh so if you aren't I wouldn't go for that

Marcus or Christian would be my choices out of those but, TBH, I'm not too keen on those either

Kat - PMSL at Kai being teenagerish grin Dh is 15 yrs older than me and actually nearer 50 so think he'll also find that funny wink Having said that, in fairness some of those names did come from people at work suggesting things and think they are all quite a lot younger!

I don't really like any of them, sorry (obviously it's your choice though). We too are in exactly the same position - had thousands of girl's names, so inevitably are having a boy! It's taken us weeks to come up with just three possible names...

Yeah, thought the same about Phoenix. I don't mind Kai but I don't think it suits the surname.

As for Max....I actually don't mind than name but can't help but think of Max from Eastenders (and ds says Max and Ruby lol). Would personally prefer something a little bit different iykwim.

Christian would feel better to me if it wasn't for the fact we have a surname beginning with C. When I say the full name, it just doesn't sound right.

Well, we need all the help we can get so if anyone fancies throwing ideas our way, would be much appreciated

We have been told we're having a boy and are struggling to agree on names. We both agreed on a girls name no problem but boys names are proving a problem.

Dh and I have totally different ideas or if we both like a name, one or both can think of reasons for not wanting to choose it (i.e. someone we know with that name etc.)

This time round it's my decision but we both have to be happy (last time dh chose - he would have gone for Elvis and I said no way! grin but agreed on using his middle name instead so ds is called Aaron).

Anyway, here are some names dh has put on a list:

Kie (I'm sure this should be Kai though hmm)
Rhys
Max
Phoenix (I'm really not keen)
Marcus (again not keen myself)
Christian

It needs to suit our surname of course, which begins with C.

So, what do you think?

TIA
