I've know quite a few Amy's who's full names have been Amelia. DH loves Amy, I do too, but I'd quite like it so be short for something and I've always liked Amelia.

DH isn't sure Amy follows as a shortened version of Amelia, do you think this will confuse people?

(P.S have heard Millie is supposed to be short for Amelia too?)

I think Amy is an appropriate short version of Amelia. Millie is too.

Lovely names. No, I don't think it will confuse anyone.

Shortened versions can be however you want them to be

Amy seems an appropriate shortening of Amelia.

Hehe, our dog is Maddy, might get confusing with a Millie and a Maddy about the place.

One more thing, Is Amelia Elizabeth ok do you think, or is it vowel overload?

Tbh though, the Elizabeth isn't really negotiable - it's my Dad's Mum's name and will make him v happy if we use it.

I've got an Amelia and we don't shorten it to anything. In fact, we tend to lengthen it and call her by her middle name too, Amelia Kitty!

There's an Emilia in dd2's class who is known as Millie. She was very confused when she started school and they called her Emilia - she only knew herself as Millie!!

Aimee is a nice shortening and we have two children at school called this.

Agree with Hulababy - shortened names can be however you want. I know an Amy whose 'real' name is Naomi and no one blinks an eyelid!

Why don't you just call her Amy? I don't see the point of Amy=Amelia. Amy Elizabeth sounds better than Amelia Elizabeth as well.

Bucharest, nice MN name, how did you choose it?

Sorry, i should have made it clear I was asking Bucharest. I was hoping I'd met a fellow Romanian on MN

I like Amy Elizabeth. Our DD2's middle name is Elizabeth and it gets shortened to Bootsy.

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
