Lovely if born in the autumn, especially if a redhead- but a bit American-sounding?! ( or would that be 'Fall' I love the nature names like Violet, Pearl etc but go for those with a bit of a trad and vintage slant rather than hippy...
Emily is pretty common- there are 2 in dd2's nursery class. I agree that Autumn doesn't pass the boardroom/promotion test, and it also seems silly if she isn't going to be born in Autumn.
Too modern for me I think. I have never come across an Autumn before though if you are looking for a more unusual name. Have come across Summer before, which I have to say that I do prefer, but still not my choice of name.
I think when you're choosing names, it's important to remember that the peson you're naming is going to be a baby for 2 years, a child for another 14, and an adult for maybe 70. Just think what it would be like to spend 70 years with a name that your parents thought was incredibly sweet when you were a baby!
My ds has a friend called Autumn - and people are alwasy calling her Summer by mistake. It's as if they know it's a season - byt don't remember which one!
Eden is gorgeous, and a bit unusual. I liked Autumn until I clicked on popmum's link and thought "Autumn Kelly" looked a bit silly written down - don't know why though
I knew a male Eden who always said it would be a good girls name. I wanted to use it for DD but for the fact that DS is Edward!! If you think it's too grown up you can always call her Edie which is lovely.
Don't mind Autumn but it really needs to be given to someone actually born in the Autumn.
I thought the name Clover was a bit twee / margarine / cow like but DH knows a Clover in his non twee-like work and it does seem quite cool as a result. I wonder if Autumn / Eden etc would be similar
I like Eden and Autumn too, but am wondering about calling a girl born in summer, Autumn.
Is she/are you going to get fed up with everyone asking her if she was born in autumn as the first question? If not, sounds fine to me - although slightly sad/pensive autumn being the beginning of the end of the year and all that . . .
Nothing at all Mrs Ruffalo. The problem (for me) would be if you were not the kaftan wearing type but everyone assumed that you were on the basis of your child's name.
We don't go for traditional but don't want ultra hippy either. Bog standard middle class city folk here.
Eden is another contender but PFB has a very soft name and our surname is quite harsh, so worried Eden may be a bit hard though think it would suit an older child/ adult but maybe not a newborn.
