Can't quite see why Tony Benn can't live in a nice house!

Speaking of Wedgie-Benn, I pass his five-storey Holland Park townhouse trudging up the hill numerous times each week!

Rich enough to buy a large house with lots of land in Devon for Boris and his siblings to grow up in!

I have no problem with this - but if people are thinking he's the child of penniless immigrants, they need to be put right!

hmm, Jenny Churchill? bet Portillo's spanish family wasn't short a few bob or connections.

on boris' His great-grandfather, Ali Kemal, a Turkish journalist, was briefly interior minister in the government of Ahmed Tevfik Pasha, Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire"

Criticise Tony Benn for what?

Not all immigrants arrive at Dover with just the clothes they stand up in you know!

his grandfather was an immigrant

i dont think he is quite as 'silver spoon' as all that

we would not crticise old "Wedgie - Benn' now would we?

I think we're in for a few surreal years.

6h, I also defend his right to be posh. Think how much worse he would be if he adopted a faux Esturine accent and pretended to be interested in football and Pop Idol.

See, that's my point. Several of those names are pretty bonkers, but, apart from Apollo and Peaches, I would defend to the death his right to use them. They are all proper names, with history and provenance.

Mind you, that is the ONLY thing he has ever done or said that I would defend his right to do or say. In all other respects I think he is a racist, sexist homophobic, over privileged capitalist running dog adulterous snob who should be first against the wall when the revolution comes.

and everyone calls him a buffoon, far from it imo

anyhoo, I don't know why I give a shit, the world doesn't revolve around London, shocking as that may seem to some grin

there's nothing wrong with being posh

although it doesn't really give you much of an understanding of how life is for 'common' people, in, say, a bustling multicultural city struggling with poverty

such as -- ooh I don't know -- London or something

what is the problem with him being 'posh'?

oooh lets slag him off because he went to Eton, the bastard

[rolls commoner eyes]

I think Allegra was his first wife. Marina is his second, or current wife........

his full name is

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

everyone knows that don't they

I think Theodore Apollo to be 'inspired'
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By slinkiemalinki on Sun 04-May-08 20:21:24
His ex-wife's Allegra. I think his wife is Marina. Or something. I think he uses Boris instead of his first name Alexander - all part of the "wacky old buffer" image.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By MrsMattie on Sun 04-May-08 10:20:46
And his wife is called Allegra. Oh, they're not posh are they?

'Darling, Boris and Allegra are coming over for a spot of foie gras tonight...'

Theodore Apollo - poor kid.
