Has anyone tried ways of bringing on labour and found that it helped or even started it??? I have heard of raspberry leaf tea but im not convinced as of yet that it works.I am 37 weeks pregnant and suffering with SPD..awful. thanks everyone.
Acupuncture just above the ankle bone on the outside of your leg IYSWIM and also lavander oil rubbed into the same place. I was given both of these at the hospital to bring on my labour! Didn't work but was very nice
i watched an ali g dvd and it was the borat bit that had me hysterical i went to bed cos my stomach was hurting that much with laughing and my waters broke i was overdue but it did seem to work...lol
pookie81 - please do not waste time and energy trying to get into labour - there is no remedy that is guarnteed to work, especially not at 37 weeks. Raspberyy leaf tea is more likley to give you painful tightenings on top of your SPD. Are you seeing a physio? Have you got a support belt? Are you getting painkillers? Managing your SPD is more useful than exhausing yourself mentally trying to get into labour honestly.
I was feeling the same way that you were when I was about 39 weeks pg with ds1. I was fed up with heartburn and I was very big so could hardly move!
A friend recommended eating fresh pineapple. I was sceptical but I thought that it was worth a go. I ended up eating half a pineapple on the Wednesday, my waters broke Thursday morning and I gave birth to ds1 Friday morning.
Eat a curry then have sex with your bloke wearing a pineapple ring on his willy
Try and hang on the last 3 weeks - your bubba's obviously happy in there. Put your feet up and make your man do everything for you. If he doesn't normally wait on you hand and foot - the shock will probably bring on labour
hi - don't go the raspberry leaf route, as mears already said, can lead to additional nasties - i didn't take to bringon labour, just to facilitate but think i was given bad advice.
Curry and sex worked for us - we have family joke that DP never late for anything so we weren't takign any chances that DD would go over.
but if you're not due, and if this is offspring one, don't rush to get there. put your feet up, enjoy the peace and quiet, go to the pictures in the middle of the afternoon, get your nails done, get a leg wax - enjoy peeing alone!! these sound like small things, but they are aboutto become major luxouries. Good Luck!
Had a pain during the day 38 weeks pg so had a bath that night and put in laveder bath oil (forgot that it can bring on labour, i know duh!)anyway woke up at 3am next morning with 10 min contractions. Wasn't trying to bring it on though.
Nothing worked for me DS decided to arrive 8 days late when I had given up hope!!
Baby will come when its ready I know its not what you want to hear but its true
Good luck and I hope it happens soon for you x
Walking, maybe? Isn't there some theory that walking makes the weight of the baby push down on your cervix? I did a lot of walking and was a week early, but of course that could have been co-incidence.
Don't know much about castor oil, sorry. Isn't it a bit like a curry, where the idea is to get your bowels moving so strongly it jump-starts the womb?!
Am loving the pineapple ring idea! Even laughing at the sight might help you along.
We did RLT, some stinky oils in burners & baths, walking, curries, constant sex DH thought it was his birthday & Xmas all rolled into one but I ended up induced at 40+10, I think they only come when they are ready & not before.
Of course this time I'll be trying them all again anyway, just in case. . Take heart that you're further on than some people (me, 32 weeks) and you'll see your little bundle soon, have a rest & put your feet up.
Right ok at risk of being shot down here,i took castor oil with all 3 of my previous children and labour started within a few hours each time.
It is NOT recommended as it is used as a severe laxative and i mean severe!! so can leave you very dehydrated and having lots of discomfort and pains. In saying that its this that irraitates the uterus and can lead onto contractions.
Its very difficult to find though can be found in small corner shops and some small out of town chemists.
I realise im probably gonna get jumped on for this post but hey ho if it was me ,and it had been me i done it ,am having twins and if it gets to THAT stage i will do it this time too
im not gonna shoot u down at all miniandme i wanna try castor oil but i have no idea what it is...
i went 2 woolworths 2day (local store)
and the girl working there told me castor oil is for a car is that true?
what about nipple stimulation have u tried that if so does it work
lol CASTROL oil is for a car lol not castor !!!
Go onto ebay and search for it ,thats where i got mine, have some stashed away upstairs for this time round, just in case. Its not expensive and shoudlnt take long to arrive.
dont do the castor oil!!! u r supposed to put a table spoon mix it with orange juice, drink down in one!! i no of three people that got really bad shits ended up dehydrated made there labour worse cos had to be on drip!!
iam 38+2 brought a big pineapple today so will tuck into that later,
have been putting lavender in bath, didnt realise it brought on labour was just relaxing!!
# i also have spd bad! iam so sick of people saying have a long walk that will do the trick! as those of u with spd will no, being able to even go 4 a short walk would b a luxury! painful enough just getting to the bathroom and bk!! iam a hairdresser so used to being active, been of work 10 weeks with spd, trying to put my feet up and think of anything that dosent include, giving birth to a 14lb baby!!!!
remember, a normal full term pregnancy is anywhere between 37 - 42 weeks, and a lot of women will got to 41 weeks, so try not to focus too much on your EDD, it is an estimated due date, not a definite prediction.
I have SPD and am 37 weeks too and know the feeling. I did laugh when someone suggested a long walk, I was thinking, hmm i cant walk to bathroom without being in pain, hmm hold on a sec!
A friend told me today that you have to eat 2 whole big pineapples to bring on labour, hmm i dont like pineapples
I didnt know about the lavander, does it have to be pure oil or will a lavender bath foam be as good?
Sex and SPD doesnt go well either so those SPD suffers will just have to wait, me thinks.
Good Luck
OK don't worry I have found it. (my acronym link was not working)
Sounds painful. I am struggling to walk as it is nevermind having that to contend with. AM 33+2 and cannot wait until this is over. Went to 42 weeks with 1st born but am booked in for c section this time after trauma of first. (Not til 39 weeks though)
My family all have a sweepstake going as to arrival date. I'm 38 weeks and really ready to meet my special delivery but figure he/she will come when ready. I am taking evening primrose oil tablets every evening though...not so much to bring on labour but to help ripen the cervix so that the pain is lessened. Also remember that even though sex is SO good, the prostglandin hormone in sperm that is released (which also helps ripen the cervix) is actually better absorbed through the stomach...ummm....yeah...you got it!
In Germany they recommend raspberry leaf tea, 3 times a day from 35 weeks to 'soften the cervix'.
Have no personal experience of this but as one who had a hugely drawn-out labour the first time round I have just got my supplies in and will be brewing up from Christmas onwards.
DON'TDOCASTOROIL - I had a TERRIBLE labour with it and no way would I ever do it again, seriously, it was truly awful and the contractions started a min apart yet it wasn't even established labour!!! I took far too much though - my silly nan gave me the wrong info!
I really wouldn't try and bring it on early anyway, baby may not be ready to come out. The only reason I did it was because I was a week late and baby wasn't growing inside and they were worried so were going to induce me anyway!
motherwort, squaw vine and gelsemium. - the ONLY way to bring on labour imo. my cousin tried all the normal ways and all failed. she saw some homeopathic person who recommended these and baby was here within 24 hours!
I don't think raspberry leaf tea brings on labour but it is meant to help tone up your uterus ready for labour and there is some evidence to prove that it makes the second stage of labour shorter. All I know is that I didn't take it in my first pregnancy and my labour lasted days with established labour (3cm onwards) lasting 19 hours. I drank raspberry leaf tea from around 36 weeks in my second pregnancy and established labour lasted 40 minutes. Make of that what you will. I'm now nearly 37 weeks and am drinking it again!
oh also other people have told me what worked for them was eating lots of mangoes, rotating their hips on a birthing ball, side stepping down the stairs and giving dp oral.
hi im 37wks preg. i have tried sex and been drinking raspberry tea since last fri. last few days been eatin fresh pineapple and still no sign!! my first came @ 38wks so hoping will go into labour soon as i really dow wanna go over!!
