Milk is an important source of nutrients that you and your family shouldnt miss out on. If someone in your family has lactose intolerance and the rest of the family still want to enjoy the taste of real milk, try Lactofree - the UKs first virtually lactose-free dairy drink.

: Blimey! Worried now about how much my toddler doesn't eat!
(11 messages)
I was just reading another thread on a slightly differnt topic and can't believe how much other peoples 2 year olds eat compared to mine. (Sorry - Im sure how much toddlers eat has been done to death here, but cant find a current thread!) So what do you think of this -my DS1 is 2 and a half and in an average day eats:
am: glass of milk 5 or so raisin wheats /small amount of rice crispies etc half a banana
lunch: hummus or cheese etc sarnie (one piece of bread) with cucumber yoghurt few blueberries
tea: 4 tablespoons of shepherds pie or such like, peas, carrots fruit pud of some kind (eg organix fruit pudding pot)
He doesnt really want to snack so thats it...does this sounds way too little? I think it probably is. Some days he wouldnt bother eating at all if I didnt stand and watch him put it in his mouth...
I started a thread on this purely because somedays DD eats this much or less and doesn't mention a word about being hungry, other days she'll hoof down twice as much and be wailing about food for hours.
As long as he isn't begging for food I wouldn't worry!
My little one probably eats about the same. She has a bottle of full fat milk morning and evening as well. She is a right skinny minny but seems happy enough. You can,t force them to eat
I think a rough guide is a toddler requires 11 tbspns of food a day. It looks like that is about what your ds is getting. If he is happy, growing and full of energy then he should be fine.
p.s. I would love it if my dd's (5 and 2.6) ate such a good diet.
My dd2 (2.6) -today
Breakfast: 1 weetabix with milk 1 small glass apple juice 1 breadstick
Lunch: 2 small drop scones raisins/apple offered but refused.
Tea: 2 tbspn of tomato soup + 1 slice bread. 1 small choc crispy (homemade)
i worried myself silly about how little dd ate, starting from 8 mo when some silly HV told me she wasn't gaining weight quickly enough. How I wish I'd known about Mumsnet back then!
I created a spreadsheet when dd was coming up to 2 yo and entered on it every mouthful she ate every time i found myself worrying again, it helped funnily enough because writing it down made me realise how much she did actually eat, rather than imagining she was eating next to nothing.
A couple of samples from it for you (dd did like her snacks though, part of the reason she had such tiny meals I think):
Day 1 Brek - Cheerios, milk, bit of toast snack - bit of cheese, ham, toast, milk, a few snack-a-jacks lunch - some ham, milk, bit of humus on toast Snack - 1/4 slice humus on toast, milk Tea - a few bits pasta, no milk!
Day 2 Brek - Cheerios, cocopops, milk Snack - Gingerbread man, bit of cheese Lunch - Few mouths pasta with cheese sauce, sweetcorn, peas, ham Snack - Milk, 2 mini apple rice cakes Tea - A handful baked beans, most of 1/4 slice toast, milk
I learnt to just relax and think, if she doesn't want to eat, and seems perfectly well etc anyway, she's not hungry. When I was relaxed, the more she seemed to eat anyway, stressy mealtimes just don't work in any way!
that your ds eats fruit, dd never has!
She's now 4.8 and still has a very small appetite, albeit eats a bit more than that nowadays!
sounds like a fair amount, more than my dd 4 eats. Her eating is now so poor we are being forced to think about a G-tube into the stomach to get calories into her.
