DD has dairy allergy since 1 yr now 11yr old and has had goats milk (i'm allergic to soya).
she has cheese but cant do yoghurt or ice cream, although have now found a dairy free icecream grin
she has margerine and cakes and occasionaly chocolate so i wouldnt be too strict on his diet.
good luck

Thank you. Don't think I'll bother with the 'reintroduction after 2 weeks' thing, as it seems clear to me that he does have an intolerance.

He won't eat anything soya-based, but loves the rice milk. He has the one with added calcium, so should be fine with that.

my nephew is the same as your ds. My sister uses soya based products for him (yoghurts/milk/spread) she doesnt police alot else TBH, he cannot tolerate cheese and she has to limit his chocolate as that really upsets his tummy but he does have normal everything else and seems fine.

Your ds sounds a bit like my dd2. I definitely avoid overtly milky products (yoghurt, cheese, ice cream) but don't worry too much if she is offered a biscuit or something with a small amount of milk.

Personally, I'd carry on avoiding dairy for at least a year.

Ds1 is one week into a dairy free diet, and the change in his poo is remarkable. After months of smelly, sloppy nappies, he is doing 'proper' solid poo - hurrah!

I have a couple of questions for dairy free experts.
1. As it seems to be an intolerance rather than a full blown allergy, does he need to be totally dairy free, or does the odd bit of butter etc not matter? Are some dairy products better/worse than others?

2. Do I have to reintroduce dairy stuff again after 2 weeks, or can I just carry on not giving it. If I do reintroduce it, to see what happens, which foodstuff should I try (yoghurt, milk, cheese?)?

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
