right have stripped his bed, bathed him and washed his hair so we'll see how he is in the morning.
he's been in the garden all afternoon and has been climbing trees and stuff-if it was the pollen then i'd have thought he'd have reacted . but nothing.
when he had the runs i phoned the gp who told me to stop the tablets so it is on his records but will mention it anyway.
he is incredibly healthy and active and fit and doesn't seem ill in anyway-just has these annoying symptoms. he has had eczema since birth-it used to be terrible when he was tiny but is ok now . we manage it quite well-but it's flared at the mo on his elbows and knees-all the usual places. ds2 has eczema too as does dh-so i assume it's just hereditary.
Diarrhoea is normally a side effect or the sedating anti-histamine so you should tell your GP about this next time you go. I'd go to the chemist, get some pirton and some eye drops and take him back to the GP. He could do with allergy testing so that you can find out what's causing the reaction. If it is hayfever elderflower cordial first thing in the morning works very well, as does local honey. Or you could try the chemical route.
you can insist on an allergy referral....some doctors don;t like to, but ask away!
I was supposed to have been referred when I fisrt started going to the doctors for my reactions (then constant hives)....was fobbed off for 2yrs as they said there was nothing they could do!
I then went in while covered in hives (I made an emmergency app.), and so they did bloods showing milk allergy....and still they didn;t refer me to a proper person!!
was onky when I had a really bad reaction this last january I I went in to be told I was in 'allergic shock' , and saw a different doctor that I finally got the referral, only to find I should have been, (and was entitled to have been) referred when I first got hives!!!
hey ho.....am on the right track now, and I do hope you get some decent sympathy and referral from your doctor!
and yes it has worked this morning-his eyes have calmed right down but his nose still sounds like he has a cold. but he says he feels fine.no throat issues or anything.breathing fine etc
no-the loratadine in what i'm giving him now. was prescribed last year for his eczema i thik.
i don't know what the other one was-it was in tablet form. it did nothing except make him lose control of his bowels. had to have a week off school as he kept soiling his pants nasty stuff.
ooh....feather pillow.....I am hell with feather pillows, but not all the time.
weird I know, but one time I am fine, another time I can;t breathe!!! and yet other times I just wakes with pouring watery eyes.....and mine isn;t down to feathers as we had thought....tis down to the house dust mite!
I now longer have feather pillows, and altho I am better, I am not by any means ok, but I am better. new bedding completely would be better! (that is my arguemnet with DH mind, not what I am implying for you)
It's possible something he's eating or coming into contact with. It will be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Allergy testing will look for general things (pets?), mould, pollen, grass, mildew... Is his bed by the window? Have you checked the window for mildew spores?
I have a DD with hayfever, DH, and me too as we have recently found out!
with DD she has weepy watery eyes that look as tho she is on the edge of tears all the time, a scratchy throat, and her asthma is worse.
DH gets swollen eyes, sneezes constantly and gets a raspy voice.
I have itchy skin, scratchy throat and just feel as tho I am constantly fighting a cold that won;t come out properly IYGWIM. my eyes get sore, but that is worsened so I thought because of me reading and the PC rather than the hayfever as such.
I never even would have thought it was hayfever in me TBH, going on how others react, but I had allergy testing at the hospital recently as I was in need of an epipend for severe reactions, and found that on top of foods, I also have airborn allergies.....tree pollen, grass pollen, house dust mite (tis why sleeping is hell for me ATM), cat/dog/rabbit fur!!!
has explained so much, and now I take daily anti-histamines (previously only took them when my hives got too bad), I am 'better-ish'....still suffering bad headaches tho.
it may be pollen with your DS, or even house dust mite which would explain why he wakes with it.
one thing tho, reactions are different all the time depending on exposure and person.....and even anaphalctic reactions are not always identical!
the eye thing is completely random. happened this am but last week happened in school.
his room is quite clean actually.
he does have a feather pillow and he has one teddy which normally gets lobbed on the floor in the night. bedding gets channged every week and washed on 60
Is it like this all the time or just when he wakes up?
I think he needs allergy testing so you can find out what's causing it. In the mean time pop to the chemist and get some eye drops to make them feel more comfortable. I don't think this is hayfever if it's been going on this long. Don't hate me but is his room dusty? Has he got a feather pillow? Are there stuffed toys on his bed?
but avenappthis the nose thing has been going on for months.literally months.
we went to the doc ages ago and she gave him ant h's which he was supposed to take for a month and then go back. we had to give up after 2 weeks because they gave him violent diaohrrea.
we didn't go back because doc actually said 'come back and i will look blankly at you again and try and think of something'whhich didn't inspire confidence and a snotty nose is bearable.
but a snotty nose, a rash, more eczema than normal, intermittently itchy bloodshot eyes, and red sore nostrils is another!
Hayfever normally calms down in the evening because of the drop in pollen, he'd normally have all of them though. Are his eyes bloodshot? Maybe he's got a cold and viral conjunctivitis (same as the bacterial type but with no weeping or sticky eyes).
There should be a chemist open, they will have a look for you and prescribe some over the counter eye drops. It sounds like the little darling has been rubbing them or maybe viral conjunctivitis. With hayfever he'll be sneezing and his nose will itch like mad.
he had a day or two of this a week or two ago as well. plus his nose has been stuffed up for months now. his eczema keeps flaring-he has this weird rashy patch on his cheek.
