air purifier will help. Keep windows in room closed (I know this sucks) Wipe face, especially around eyes with wet flannel frequently.

with regards the skin, treat as eczema, asee Gp for striong cream fr the stubborn bits.

it does sound like it could be hayfever type reaction though to me.

which one?

piriton?

you might invest in an air purifier for his room and move it to any room he is spending time in.

what antihistamine is he on?

Sounds like an environmental allergen which can be hard to diagnose as the general RAST test they do only tests for a limited number of allergens unless there is something specific you suspect.

Do you have air purifier?

no asthma.
never been allergy tested because has never shown any allergy syptoms before-apart from a couple of random episodes of hives-which only lasted 30 mins and then disappeared.

rain actually makes things worse with pollen, brings it down.

it's all you can do really.

does he have any creams for the eczema?

I'm guessing you haven't changed washing powder, soap, shampoo anything like that.

The problem with allergies is that it could be anything around him or in his diet that's causing it.

Unfortunately it's a process of elimination.

Just as a for instance, I'm allergic to some lillies...they make me ill.

Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By themildmanneredjanitor on Mon 28-Apr-08 09:35:03

Sound like our Docs.

Is there an out of hours service you can use?
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By Wezzle on Mon 28-Apr-08 09:32:46
Oh right. I only ask as it sounds like the reaction I have if I stroke animals and then don't wash my hands.

What about at school or frinds houses?

no-no animals at all. and we have made the house as dust mite unfriendly as possible-wood floors/leather sofas etc.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By Wezzle on Mon 28-Apr-08 09:22:41

ds has always had eczema-since birth so we know he is a bit that way inclined immunologically.

for the past n months he has been sniffing all the time. he always sounds snuffly.took him to the doc who gave him anti histamines to take for a month. we managed 2 weeks and had to stop because he had such violent diarrohea as a side effect.

the snuffles have got worse. he sounds like he permanently has a cold and is always wiping his nose. last week his eyes were scarlet and his nostrils too. that has gone over the past day or three-he's back to being snuffly.
his eczema is up and this morning he was ripping at his legs. he has some small red spots on his leg and the whole area round them was bright red. cold water calmed it down. he has another patch the same on his arm.

wondering what to do-don't want gp to just fob us off with anti histamines again iyswim.
