Has anyone ever heard of someone suddenly becoming highly sensitive to rice?

Friend of mine can no longer eat this as he now has heavy bleeding when going to the bathroom (is this something to be worried about). This was never a problem before and it was only in adulthood that this happened. He did stop for around 6 months to see if it would settle down but the reaction came back even worse than before so....

It's possible to be intolerant of any food.

Heavy bleeding from his bottom is something which needs to be investigated - sooner rather than later. He needs an appointment with his GP as soon as possible.

rice and pears are supposed to be the least allergenic foods, but as wigwam says, you can still be allergic to them, so yes, I would get it checked out asap if it were me.

Doesn't matter when the bleeding happens, it needs checking out. Bleeding from the bottom can be a sign of something serious, and it always needs investigating.

DS had some tests a few years ago that said he was intolerant to rice. We had never seen any problem but tried to reduce using it to 2 times a year (Spanish family so a big chage in the diet!!!). And he was fine. Recently he started reacting even to rice milk so we had to stop it for a couple of weeks and re introduce it in small quantities. A little bit too much and he curls himself up in pain.

So yes, you can be allergic to rice. If she has stopped and the problem is back as soon as she reintroduce it, it is likely she is reacting to it BUT it is important to have it checked anyway because it could be another thing totally unrelated to allergies, is it possible that the texture is irritating a bowel that has someother kind of problem?

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
