To be kind of annoyed that DP is using planes, trains and automobiles to get to Manchester for the UEFA cup final when he hasn't even got a ticket and will have to watch it on a big screen?? Can you imagine if we all decided to bugger off for two days midweek? I know it's a one-off, once in a lifetime blah blah blah event but can he not just watch it on a big screen nearer home???????? hmm
I'm such a nagging wife! grin

Honestly, every second person I have spoken to is heading to Manchester! Glasgow and the surrounding areas will be empty on Wednesday! grin

I think you are being a tiny bit U, it is a one off and I imagine the atmosphere in Manchester will be great!

(and that is coming from someone from "the other side" wink)

I knew it, I am a nagging wife. grin. Did I mention the never ending golf outings, stag trips and weekly golf and football games wink.

Organise something for yourself in a few weeks time, a girl's day out or a weekend away, something you want to do.

Even it up a bit wink

A friend and I were due to go out on Wednesday for a rare girl's night out. We'd arranged it before Rangers booked their place but now she can't go because her dh is going out - presumably to see it on some pub's big screen or something. hmm

I think I will Aimsmum. With all the sunny weather around, I think I sense a wee beer garden day/night with the girlies. Having said that, DH (called him DP earlier) blush will use my day out as an excuse to request his next one!! See I'm nagging again - just can't stop myself grin.
I like him really wink.

Yeah, make the most of the nice weather, you never know when it will end, and that could be our summer over (always the optimist! grin)

Lol at him planning his next one tho, no advice on that really, except for you to plan another one too!!! wink

European football cup, expat. It's the final next wednesday and Rangers are in it. They are playing in Manchester.

Well you're obviously not going to stop him going, so you may as well accept it with a good grace, but make sure you get an equal amount of time (and money if relevant) to go out yourself sometime!

United European Football Association???hmm - maybe? cup final.
Scottish teams VERY rarely have any success in European competitions although Celtic reached a final a few years back. Rangers have got to the final for the first time in 30 something years, resuling is lots of hysterical men (and some women) - don't want to be sexist!, marching on Manchester this week.
So yes, yet another cup final (yawnnnnnn)

It's not nagging and making a big fuss about it, because he's going to go anyway and the only hting htat will happen is that you will get upset by it.
It takes about 2lb of chocolate. Good stuff.

Organise something for yourself in a few weeks time as payback.

My DH arranged to go to Germany to watch the football a few months ago - again once in a lifetime, 3 nights away with his mates..

So this weekend I'm heading off to spend the weekend with my friends...

The atmosphere will be very good, and it will be a once in a lifetime thing - even if they qualify again it won't always be somewhere as accessible and as cheap to get to as Manchester

So let him go, but do make sure there is some payback for you
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By ReachOutAndTeuch on Mon 12-May-08 10:56:32
Wait!!! You mean you are getting him out of the house??!!

Well, mine has invited a gang round to have bbq and watch at ours hmm.

Quite an extravaganza by his accounts grin...see my thread on 'build-up music' hmm

Oh, for the peace!!! wink

LOL a bunch of excitable footy fans sat on your sofa raiding the fridge, squawking and oooohhhhing for 90min. nice

My DH has cancelled his football coaching, taken a half day and has arranged for GP's to look after children on Wednesday. He's not even a Bluenose...

Oh, and the mates are coming round too. Joy.

Tell your dh MintChocAddict - that he's best to head to Picadilly 'Gardens' to watch it on the big screen as there won't be any at CoMs - or Exchange Square is a bit nicer, but further from Picadilly.

we are bracing ourselves for Wednesday night here - I just hope they are nice to our 'footy' ground! (I use the use football in the loosest terms after yesterday's debacle)

My dh is going and has spent a small fortune on tickets :-( and he went to the semi's - in Glasgow and Italy while I was at home with three dc's. I'll be glad when its over and he stops going on about it!

sigh . . .

I think he's heading to Picadilly to watch it, but thanks for the local info. Hopefully he'll remember it!!
Oh and ladies thanks for all your 'getting even' suggestions. Today I organised two girly lunches and just about to plan a night of cocktails for a couple of weeks time.
I've decided to stick my feet up, eat my considerable body weight in chocolate and watch the game on Wednesday night. If you can't beat 'em join 'em!
Feeling very sorry for ReachOutAndTeuch and KatieScarlett. I thought I had problems wink.

I've got one spa weekend booked already. Shame I couldn't have timed it so that it was during the world cup and he wouldn't have a chance of seeing it for running round after our three wink

More:

Police clashed with Rangers supporters in Manchester city centre after thousands of fans were left angry when a big screen showing the Uefa Cup final failed to work.

Officers in riot gear charged fans in the Piccadilly Garden fan zone after being pelted with bottles and cans.

Riot officers hit several of the fans with their batons, and then backed off.

Police charged fans twice more, pushing them back. After one clash a fan laid on the floor and appeared to be injured.

Fans taunted police by filming them with their mobile phones, while police fended them off, hitting them with their shields and batons.

Just saw it on ITN news. My DH has been in Albert Square so hopefully well out the way of the trouble. HE phoned me (blimey!)shock a couple of times during the match to give me a running commentary (even though I was watching it) smile and all seemed to be well so fingers crossed.
Sky news seem to be playing it down as isolated incidents so here's hoping all's well. (crosses fingers).

why do a minority of men have to behave like pricks when it comes to football??
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Upwind on Wed 14-May-08 23:17:30
Glad he was away from it all and got to see the match. Some of DHs friends are there too.

I think it was just frustration about the screen not working that set people off, after they had traveled so far.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Upwind on Wed 14-May-08 23:17:58
Not that that is any excuse!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By MintChocAddict on Wed 14-May-08 23:27:12
Unfortunately as with any big team, there'll always be a minority of f*ckwits who are unable to just have a good day out. EEJITS! angry. Not leaving a good impression of Glasgow, as it's the nasty stuff generated by the few that sticks in folks minds and not the good natured behaviour of the many!

I live quite close to the Rangers ground in Glasgow, and used to live right round the corner when I was a student - within shouting distance.
Generally they were nice enough - happy Glasgow drunks, but if they lost we would often have broken glass all over the street in the morning.

Suppose that is why the flat was soooooo cheap!

Glasgow will be quiet today! Also quiet yesterday - so little traffic that we cut 10 mins of our journey into town.

Well done Ranger's for getting into the UEFA CUP even though they lost it was a great achievement for them

possibly the worst team to ever reach a european cup final. the only thing more depressing than their onfield performances was once again the actions of their fans.
how long until uefa take action.

Weegiemum - you can't live that far from me! On a match day, we can hear when the Huns Rnager score! We're in douce Pollokshields - but far enough away not to be affected by either parked cars or by fans walking past. I did pass the fans left in Glasgow last night as I cycled home near Paisley Road West as they went to the pub/to Ibrox.
