Great, thanks. Will do the switch and the hairdryer and see how we go.

My old hob did this once. I was really technical and turned the electric switch off! When I turned it back on a couple of hours later it had stopped! Worth a go.

Strip down your hob until you can see the ignitors.

Dry them, gently, with a hairdryer.

Reassemble hob.

twelveyeargap - your DH - !!

I've done this as well, and in the end (about a day) it stopped on its own.

It's really annoying. Have tried drying all the bits under and around the burners and have tried lighting all the burners and leaving them on to dry out, but no joy.

Incidentally, I put a pot on the stove containing hot water, vanish oxy and some white baby clothes, then took a phone call and of course the foamy water boiled over everywhere and flooded the whole hob and I almost ruined the clothes.

I can't even tell which burner is clicking. Tsk. Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

Thanks!

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
