I just bought a moses basket but where they make them (I presume in their home) they must smoke as it smells of smoke. THe covers are removeable I think but I really don't want to take them off incase I wreck them - how can I get rid of the smell? It's not overpowering, but I can notice it (super sensitive to smoke smells). More to the point, will it be safe for baby to sleep in? THanks

Where/who on earth did you buy it from?

Stick it in the garden to air it for a while

I bought it from a shop online - cost £82.50 without a stand which was one thing, but am abit pissed off now it smells of smoke. THe mattress is only a cheap foam one (what I expected) but I think I will have to replace with another new one (even though it's totally wrapped up).

DO you think? It's so faint it may have been the courier smoking in the van...

If you think you can get rid of the smell and you are otherwise happy with it then fine.
But I would definitely send it back.
If the description when you bought it included "faint smell of cigarette smoke" you presumably wouldn't have ordered it, and thats how it's arrived.
You paid decent money for something that should arrive brand new and pristine - you should have to fix it in any way for it to be usable.

Yep, I guess your right. At least then they can say if it was likely to have been the courier, I really can't imagine people who make baby moses baskets to be smoking around them. Thanks

I would definitely send it back. No way any baby of mine would be going near anything smoky.

And it doesn't matter if it was the courier - it's still their problem, and they will need to follow up with the courier (who they have a contract with) not you.

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
