We are having a new shower room downstairs and were advised to have an electric shower in there. We have a power shower upstairs that has a pump. Ive bought a 10.5kw Triton electric shower but have now been told that electric showers are no good at all and that the water pressure is almost nil. Is this the case?

Should I change it now before its installed?

ours is a bit rubbish for sure. I would definitely not put it in a shower room. my parents have a fantastic shower, but it runs off the hot water tank and is very powerful. we have a combi boiler so opted for an electric shower, but it's not good for anything, even washing hair!

Electric showers are absolutely rubbish, like you we have a power shower in our ensuite and have just had an electric shower fitted in the main bathroom. Water dribbles out. We have had Triton to look at it and they have said that that is as good as it gets. We now have to wait a couple of years so that we get some use out of it before changing it to a power shower.

Electric showers without pumps are rubbish.

A power shower is only a power shower because it uses a pump.

You can buy electric showers that have pumps.

we had one in our old house and it was crap - the temp was never right and we would either scald or freeze - handy for when we had no hot water you would think. We have a normal one now off the normal system and its far more powerful - i guess that depends on your water pressure in your house. Aside from that i was always scared of electrocution what with water and leccy but im strange like that hmm

So, I should take this one back and buy one with a pump?

Really depends on the water pressure in your house.

From "Which":
Electric shower

Cost £50 to £200

This provides water separately from the mains cold water supply. As with mixer showers, they have temperature and pressure gauges that can be adjusted. These great for an en suite or second bathroom as they supply instant hot water separate to the boiler system – and if anything goes wrong with the boiler, you still have one hot shower in the home.

However, the mains pressure needs to be at least 0.7kg/sq cm and the pressure and temperature can vary against each other. For example, you can get a high temperature with less pressure, or a lower temperature but a higher pressure shower. You will also need an electrician to install and sign off the work.

How would I find out what the mains pressure is for my house?

My dad has an electric shower and it is absolutly fine. I have just ordered the same one as him to have installed in my bathroom.

Bit worried now.

We have 2 electric showers, and they are both great - one is fairly new and on the 2nd floor, so it would have been tricky to get the hot water up there. The other is older and in the main bathroom on the 1st floor, and also great. We have no problems with either, and were also very glad to have them when our boiler broke last year.

Thank you SaintGeorge.

Thats why we were told to have an electric shower in case anything went wrong with the boiler. I wonder should I swap this Tritan Opal 2 for one with a pump?

Sorry, went offline for a while there.

If you prefer a power shower, have the option to swap it and can afford the difference in price (which I'm sure there will be) then yes, I would smile

We have a Mira Azores electric shower and its retty good. Mira has one with a pump too and Aqualise electric showers were recommended.
A plumber can check your water pressure for you.
