I'm not going to France in the forseeable future and all the candles I buy seem to have no scent. I've bought yankee candles, laura ashley, m and s, a white company one - and all of them seem to have very little scent.

If I contrast that with burning the last smidgeon of Diptyque I've got left for 10 minutes then the whole house in scented.

Is there any fab candles I'm missing? I've just bought one off ebay (Torbay candles) which was only £5 including p&p so here's hoping.

Jo Malone is nice but v expensive. I got a 'natural magic' one for my birthday - it's lovely.

The Pier used to have beautiful smelling candles. It's so long since I've been houshold shopping though that I'm not even sure if the The Pier is still trading.

John Lewis own brand ones are great - they do one that is very like diptyque, same flavours etc and cost about £10.

Tissy, in your link they have a scented candle called Snowfall, what on earth does that smell like?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By tissy on Sat 03-May-08 20:45:37
no idea! I haven't sniffed all of them!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By bran on Sat 03-May-08 20:50:28
Then you're duty bound to sniff it and report back the next time you go to that shop. smile Have a sniff of the Jack Frost while you're there too.

I wonder if they would be good presents for the relatives in Malaysia, they never get the chance to smell snow or frost.

Which M & S ones did you try though Laurie? Agree some are useless, but the Marks and Spencer grapefruit and ginger candle reviewed here really is as good as they say. I love Diptyque too and this is a very fair substitute.

Yep, the ones in the boxes that are black and white are great but they don't do lavender anymore. They did it for about a week and then it all sold out it was that good. The green fig one is nice too.

But I want lavendery ones
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler on Sat 03-May-08 21:23:43
Have you tried L'Occitane? They do a very peppery-lavendery toiletries range and maybe a candle to match?

I got given a jo Malone one. Adore JM but the candle was ordinary

True Grace candles are REALLY good. I have had loads of Diptyque candles and IMO they are as good if not better as the wax is all natural plant wax and therefore doesn't put sooty particles into the air.

They can be got for about £18 each sometimes cheaper if they have a sale on. I have a Green Fig one on the go at the moment and it beats Diptyque fig completely it is lush. They last 40 hours plus.
