In addition to the nannies and personal trainers that have moulded these celebs' figures back in shape, these women must have formula-fed bairns from the off as how can anyone have the time and energy if breastfeeding?

Also, since it's Breastfeeding Awareness week, speaking as a breastfeeding mother myself, let's dispel that myth that breastfeeding helps you loose weight. Just the opposite in fact as not only is tucking into full-fat everything about the only indulgence allowed but one doesn't have any time or energy to get on the treadmill or eat low fat.

the weightloss thing isn't neccessarily a myth, you know
perhaps more truthful would be 'bfing may not help you lose weight'

I stuffed down cake with the best of them and was back in normal clothes at 6wks and wearing a bikini 7wks postpartum, but who knows what would have happened if I hadn't bfed?

it pisses me off. Another reason to make post-partum women feel guilty/inadequate.

I disagree - breastfeeding helps you lose weight over time ... not within 4 weeks, but I didn't exercise in the first year, but eating healthy food and breastfeeding got me to within the last 6lbs... (an then I did diet a bit to get that off.)

The problem with this obsession of celebrity mums "getting back in shape" is a male media driven thing that women MUST be shaggable on all occasions and that the attracitiveness to men is more important than the health of the mother or baby.

It is sexist SHITE.
Some women recover their figures with very little effort, others don't.

Being availble for a shag post partum is NOT the most important thing for a new mother.
Treat these sexist journo scum with the contempt they deserve.

It's sad that these female slebs haven't got enough backbone to tell their entourage to bugger off and leave them alone with their new babies for a while.

But many seem to be addicted to being in the media glare.

BF did help me to lose weight - though it came off slowly over 5 months not immediately 'celeb style'. I did eat healthily and walk lots though and I don't think it would have shifted if I had eaten cake as often as I would have liked (I did have to eat cake in the first month or so though!).

It does annoy me though that some magazines focus so much on how thin celebs look so soon after birth, and draw attention to those who haven't dropped the weight immediately. It gives very unrealistic expectations to how long it's supposed to take for the weight to go.

I lost 4lb last week and it HAD to be bf because my Mum was here stuffing me with cake the whole time! I think in general if you bf and eat healthily the weight will come off but it should be a slow process.

WEll, i NEARLY faded away breastfeeding. I had to stop before I disappeared...

Back up to nine stone now though, so not permanent. But my son fed like a pig.

I was not 'blooming' though! I have pictures of myself at that time and my face was white and shiny and my hair was shit and my clothes were shit and I had DARK circles under my eyes...

Those women (slebs) are cantilevered into spanx pants and dipped in fake tan. Also they have those nursery nurses (what's the word) who stay up all night to do the night feeds, so they get to SLEEP......

i nearly faded away from PND.

three weeks after birth, after a diet of ADs, cigarettes and coffee, my size 8 jeans were baggy.

and people kept going on about how 'fantastic' i looked.

I was back in my clothes very quickly first and second time. Bit slower 3rd time. But I wouldn't have wanted to 'reveal' my figure for a loooong time after that.

I lost 6-7 kilos after the birth. I lost the remaining 6 when I stopped breastfeeding. Mind you, with all I ate while breastfeeding, I'm quite impressed that I didn't put on any weight, really
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By MadamePlatypus on Thu 15-May-08 20:30:55
I definitely lost weight breastfeeding, and I didn't really put on weight being pregnant. I will rephrase that - I didn't put on weight being pregnant. It might be my genetic make up, or it might be that I have children who eat alot. I put on weight when not pregnant/breastfeeding though.

Having said that, it really annoys me that having done the most amazing thing ever, give birth, women are suddenly supposed to look as though they are pre-pubescent virgins as though nothing happened.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By ElizabethBeresfordSW19 on Thu 15-May-08 20:31:23
Yes I think real women put on more weight when they're prgnt. I went from 9stone to 12 stone and thought very little of it. So what?! I was .... pregnant! durr! OK so maybe a teeensy weensy bit of that was magnums and cheese and onion crisps,,, but I didn't feel guilty over it.

But you read in magazines about how celebreties "ballooooooooooooooooned" to 12 stone.

PS, I also agree with Miggsie. A woman has no value that the papers can fathom if she is not shaggable. It is too confusing for them hmm

So, I think we all agree that these women are arseholes for not snuggling up with their wee bairns and enjoying them. Who is this motherhood thing about anyway!!

I lost weight quickly too, which I put down to breastfeeding as I was eating well (plenty of chocolate grin). My clothes are hanging off me a bit now (12 months in) and I feel scrawny rather than glowing. I would love my pregnancy bum back. I think I read somewhere that breastfeeding was like running a marathon every week, it certainly feels like it some nights!

I have went from a size 12 to a size 8 since having DC, the second time especially ther weight just fell off, I don't think it was especially breastfeeding more not sitting at a desk and eating out of boredom, also having a newborn and toddler means you don't have time to think about food.

I know have a much healthier relationship with food in that I don't really think of it, I don't calorie count, diet, feel guilty when I have something "naughty" I eat when I'm hungry and eat what I want.

Even thought the weight fell off I still have the saggy belly and bum (well the belly is a bit swollen right now grin).

I detest the "oh look at me I only put on 2lbs when pregnant and lost it all and was back in my size 6's in a week aren't I great" celebs.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By expatinscotland on Thu 15-May-08 20:45:04
i didn't gain much weight overall with the DCs because i had awful acid reflux and just couldn't manage to eat much.

this time round's shaping up the same way.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By sweetkitty on Thu 15-May-08 20:55:13
What are you getting for your acid reflux expat? I have it moderately bad nothing like you and have found Zantac is great even though theres a debate on whether you should take it whilst pregnant but MW told em it was safe.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By expatinscotland on Thu 15-May-08 21:34:44
I usually have Zantac as long as I can manage, which was all the way through last time.

First time, though, I had to have a proton pump inhibitor - third trimester - as I had an ulcer in my oesophagus.

Sounds bloody awful expat the things we go through for these little babies.

Now thats what we need a sleb coming out and saying "I'm covered in stretchmarks, my stitches in my fanjo aren't healing, I pee myself when I cough, my boobs leak everywhere etc"

CAN DO WHAT ??
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By Egg on Fri 16-May-08 16:46:31
I bf DS1 and was back at pre-preg weight within a couple of days of having him. Am formula feeding DTs but was also back at pre-preg weight by the time I was home from hospital. I ate a lot and badly both times (mainly biscuits and cake blush.

I know some celebs do ridiculous diets to get their figures back but it can sometimes happen naturally. My sis was the same with her three children too, neither of us did any exercise other than running round after children etc.

Bfing helped me loss weight, and it helped me get my waist back, without dieting. Only ater about a year of bfing though.
