Bobbi Brown's Moisturising Balm. There's a tinted and non-tinted version, and it has an SPF of 25 (which is plenty for me). It smells nice, soaks in really well, moisturizes well and I generally love the stuff.
Last year I used Gatineau Melatogenine SPF50 it was good, went on thick but soaked in nicely, no spots or anything and didn't get in my eyes like piz buin does.
I'm using Clinique City Block spf 40 atm - as recommended by BBBee, I think. I like it - goes on pretty sheer, and non greasy. Seems to do the trick. Doesn't clog up my face. Lightly tinted, but not so's you'd notice. The only thing I'm not sure about is how long the protection lasts, ie if I put it on first thing in the morning before heading off to work, should I really be reapplying it later on, or will it still be working at lunchtime?
would wearing moisturiser with spf and a foundation on top with spf be a substitute for sunscreen do you think?
i have been putting ambre solaire suncream mixed in with my lancome moisturiser on first and then my foundation but this morning i got up little lumps under my skin on the cheeks!
I bought Chanel Beaute Initiale moisturiser which has a SPF of 15, and it was yawsless. As a moisturiser and its sun protection. And it was $80 when my sil bought it for me cos I thought it would be cheaper in the US.
I like Origins Outsmart. It's only spf25 but smells lovely and lemony and hasn't given me any spots.
I also just rub any residue into my face once I've creamed the children so I'm probably not the best guide as to whether SPF25 is enough! (The children's sunscreens are inclined to make me spotty though.)
If you need a proper facial sunscreen then stuff in moisturiser isn't enough, and you should use one with TITANIUM DIOXIDE. I used to live on the equator where proper sunscreen is essential, and I used Dermalogica Ultra Sensitive Faceblock SPF25, also Dr Hauschka do a good one for children. Positive side affect is that Titanium Dioxide is slightly tinted so gives a healthy glow much like a tinted moisturiser. Doesn't clog skin, feel claggy or give a white sheen like traditional Nivea/ Ambre Solaire/ Soltan type sunscreeens.
Ooh, I was just going to mention the Dr Hauschka cream. The protective face cream is only SPF 8 but does OK for the amount I'm out in the sun and (most importantly) I LOVE using it as it smells so great! However am thinking I'll share DS's Dr Hauschka suncream, as that's SPF 30. Not sure whether it will be greasy for facial use though, am going to try it now (just when the lovely Scottish sun has faded away...)
Clarins UV Plus Protective Day Screen is a block that goes over your moisturiser and under makeup. Its factor 40, (the higher the better for me, a freckly redhead), non greasy, and seems to work a bit like a primer. Looks good, and I think works.
Their Factor 30 face anti-wrinkle suncream is good too, but if you wear makeup (like me) its a bit greasy.
Am briefly flirting with Becca SPF primer (factor 30) but not that impressed - seems to be drying my skin out. I was seduced by the boast of Australian sunscreen technology.
I beg to differ over the SPF in moisturisers doesn't work theory. I have use tinted Neutrogena moisturiser with a SPF of 30 for 7 years now. It has proved its effectiveness during a five-month spell living in Dubai, and numerous holidays in SW Florida. In fact, it is all I have ever put on my face, apart from one memorable occasion when I bought a special high-factor facial sunscreen which left me almost disfigured with lumps and bumps and facial swelling that took several days to go down. Now it's Neutrogena all the way.
I work in the local dermatology day unit so I have to be a good girl and make sure I wear sun screen. It would be extremely to turn up at work sunburnt. Anyway, I slap on the factor 50+ ambre solaire kids stuff that I put on DD and it seems fine as long as you take care to regularly cleanse your face. However, one of my colleagues swears by sunsense daily face which is spf 50+ but is not at all greasy like most sunscreens available in the UK. It is also tinted so you don't get that shiny face look most sunscreens give you. We have some samples on the department and it does seem popular. Sunsense was developed in Australia and is very popular out there.
I quite like the Body Shop Vitamin E one Body Shop
Smells nice (roses) - v important! Only Factor 15 so not enough for prolonged strong sunshine - I wouldn't voluntarily put my face in the sun for very long anyway though being pale and wimpy.
Yes, re having to reapply every hour, that kind of rules out wearing make-up then, otherwise you'd spend the entire day in and out of the loo cleansing and reapplying An application of the SPF moisturiser in the morning then make-up usually lasts pretty well on me.
I've had a malignant melanoma removed, 2 inche scar and a big scare due to have 3 more moles removed next week . I use Heliocare Gel factor 90 on my face and i love it, it's slightly tinted and non greasy, cover up girls it's just not worth the risk as it can be serious if not treated in time
