VS you are in disgrace for filling up the thread and not leaving enough space to start another one. For a moment I felt lost and alone and nearly had a panic attack wink

LOADS of congrats to munkinfamily - Cameron is a great name, glad he is doing well.

VS - pay no attention to health visitors unless they are nice. I work with loads of them and some are very sensible and lovely and some are frankly barking. Unfortunately, I know the one I have been allocated and she is of the barking variety, so I will be allowing her one home visit and then telling her firmly will be attending clinic. That is, if I EVER have a baby.

I am so finding being a first time mum tough and DS is 9. Think I am gonna find 2nd time tougher somehow.

Why are all 9 year old boys fixated by small dead woodland creatures and dog poo.

Hi ladies,

It's been a hectic few days but just popped in with a few more details.

So contractions kicked in well on Tuesday night but despite the pain I was still wondering if it was the real thing. I was already completely exhausted after several days of false starts. I went to lie down at around 9.15 and suddenly my waters burst. I insisted on having a shower and DH ran and got a cab. My Mum was terrified I would slip in the shower. When I got to the hospital I was in serious pain and when I was told I was only 4cms dilated. I started thinking about having an epidural. By the time the Doc arrived I had decided I was getting one and they called the anesthetist who should have taken 20 mins max to come but instead took 1.5 hrs! I was already at the pushing stage and had changed my mind about the epidural but the Doc said it would be a good idea to get one (she knew the head was still far up) and I trusted her judgement because we had discussed how she wasn't to let me have one easily. Anyway, after 1.5 hrs of pushing the ventouse came out (her heartbeat was slowing a bit but the Doc didn't tell me until later). I wasn't bothered by the ventouse, it just took three pushes and Ailish was born. We did skin to skin for about 30 seconds and Ailish was whisked away by the pediatrician for mucus removal and a blast of oxygen (a very worrying few mins). Unfortunately I retained placenta and had to go straight to the operating theatre (while DH was left in the room holding Aillish) and had a full spinal block and then 2 hours in the recovery room (they brought in Ailsih & DH to me). The spinal block was awful, with having drips, catherer and the wearing off. It really knocked me. I also lost a 1.5 litres of blood so am now on iron tablets (plus painkillers & antibiotics). Ailish was thriving for the first couple of days though but on Friday before we were supposed to leave we discovered she had lost slightly more than 10% of her birth weight and so had to stay in. We went on a marathon feed from Friday to Saturday. Every three hours she had bf, plus anything I could express from the breast, plus formula top up (as prescribed by the pediatrician) to fatten her up. She had put on enough weight by Saturday and she was discharged. We are still on the marathon feeds though. I don't mind her having the top up but she always gets breast first. Her latch is good but she still a bit lazy at sucking. My milk only really came in today so hopefully we will be able to stop the top ups in the next couple of days. We'll see what the midwife says tomorrow.

Anyway, she is an absolute doll, the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen and the best thing that has ever happened to me. DH is completely besotted. He wants to hold her all the time and even though he has no experience with babies he has become great at nappy changing. He is a worrier though and kept asking the midwives and support staff tons of questions. DH's parents are here and I have them all running around doing errands for me. I am really lucky with all this help.

God, I've written tons. Sorry for blabbing on. Must go and try to catch up now. Congrats to all the other new Mum's!!!!

Molly weldone for getting Aiilish safely into the world, it always seems such a shame when you hear stories of delivering the baby only to have a spinal after coz of complications. Glad you are both home safe and well now though cant wait for the pics.

Congratulations Gangle - I found my first really tough, its a massive change to go from work to being at home with a screaming thing and little adult conversation. When your feling beeter after the c-section find some post-natal groups def helps to get out and see/talk to other mums and know your normal, plus it stops the cabin fever. (Its still hard with subsequent LO's but at least you have an idea of what is coming)

Congratulations munchkinmum - sorry missed it on the end of the last one.

VS, hope your ok, at least you know he was starting from a really good weight so can afford to loose a bit.

baby weight is a pain. DS4 hasn't made his birth weight up yet either, so we can't be discharged by MW. yet after ds1, ds2, ds3 failed to gain quickly we were seen by a paed and dx'd with a genetic tendency to slow weight gain- ie no need to worry. In the apst HV's have always talked me into giving the odd bottle, not this time though!

Sorry HCP's there is a virgin gut here and it's staying that way!!

Just came back from taking DD to a party and I nearly cried on the way home because I was sooooooooooo scared about being on the motorway with Alex blush
I was desperate just to stop and hold him and cry!

Also fed him in the car park at matalangrin
Wonder how many people realised what I was doing?wink

i feel same way with Bas inthe car VS {grin]

no way anybody'll talk me into anything tjis time- he's more than thriving (ds1 adnittedly wasnt, due to undx'd casein intol) and i am a lot more-- erm- bloodyminded than i used to be. shouldnt have had a hospital birth with ds3 but didnt stand up to anyone, was a perfect birth too (and enough time for both of the mw to make it then...3 hours)

I wonder how Scamp is. I can't believe this one's been drawn out so much given her history.

Ta NEM but have jut eaten roast pork with crackling. Not very good for getting baby out but soooo yummy. Oink.

Awwww molly, I love hearing birth stories. Am so glad you and your little girl are doing so well, and that Mr Molly is besotted. Am hoping that kicks in for DP, cos at the moment he seems rather uninterested hmm and is more concerned with his new playstation game than his newest daughter arriving.

moomin - glad you managed the trip ok x

Peachy - have you had an update from scamp recently?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By elfsmummy on Sun 20-Apr-08 20:40:26
Evening all.

Lovely to hear of some more births. Its my birthday tomorrow so for anyone still waiting the 21st is a lovely day wink

We're not doing too bad. MW coming tomorrow - no doubt to discover the gloom and doom of baby weight loss!

DD1 has been really struggling with adjustment to being a big sister. Lots of major meltdowns etc. Am dreading DH returning to work on Wednesday as it seems DD2 isn't the most settled of babies either. Still 2 more days to go! And he has to go back some time!

Breastfeeding going ok this time. Been really concentrating on positioning (after bleeding nipples and mastitis with DD1) and so far I seem to have got away with it. Milk came in much quicker this time too (on day2)

Am dying to hear from toastaddict to see if she was in the room next door to me at hospital. What a coincidence!

Ooooh lots of new little ones arrived since I checked in last. Congrats to one and all and much joy with your little bundles.

Elfsmummy, my hubby goes back on Wednesday too and I can't say I'm looking forward to it. How old is your DD1? My DS1 is 4.5 and is sort of OK so far but anything could happen this week so would appreciate the ear of a kindred spirit. I also had an horrific time BFing with DS1, exactly the same probs as you by the sound of it, and know all about the joys of plummeting through the centiles. All a load of tosh! Let us know how the weigh in goes... my BFing is going scarily well. DS2 lost only 2oz in the first 5 days and put on 11oz in the next 5 days. Guzzler.

Oh and DH is out straight from work on Thursday so I have to cope with DS1 and DS2 all day and manage evening routine by myself.

Shall no doubt be on mumsnet about 10.30 tearing my hair out...

BR

Hope all are well.

Well done on BF-ing Scorpio smile

Taking DD1 to have her pre-school booster injection this morning, then at least I have her all sorted before Olivia starts hers.

Am not so tired lately (although I don't want to tempt fate by saying too much, lol) as Olivia has seemed to settle into a nice routine. Also, I am trying to see if I can get her into a 3 hour(ish) feeding routine during the day - rather than her snacking as and when ... oh how her lungs are getting a work out!!! grin

Well first due date (17th) been and gone, next one is 23rd. I ate a whole pineapple yesterday, had sex twice and did all of the house cleaning and not even a single twinge!!! I am so fed up! Really really really do NOT wnat to go overdue but no doubt I will!

Really glad that your doing so well with the BFing scorpio

I was actually wondering about you Carey - thought maybe you had baby already! BTW - with regards to pineapple - I heard that the most important part to eat is the core.

I have a feeling my little baby Roo will come some time this week. I am SOOOOO weepy at the moment - everything sets me off!

hello all! after coming home thoroughly despondent last night, went to bed about 10.15, woke up at 4.05 thinking 'hmm, that's a bit more painful', came downstairs, went on a hilarious cleaning spree whilst timing contractions, woke dh at 5, asking him to watch me have one and see if he thought I was in labour, got in car, ctx slowed down so only had one en route (thank god for TENS), another in car park. Got in and luckily almost straight into ward (5.40). Urge to push, waters burst everywhere, three pushes later and my little girl was born! she is SO gorgeous, looks eerily like a bigger ginger version of her sis! so kind of a quick labour after all! more later when have two hands, thanks so much to you all! xx

ps home just after 10! dd1 (!) very happy

congrats to all new mums, scorpio WELL DONE!

Congratulations scamp and babywhiting another couple of girls to even it up.

Went to a friends for coffee this am and DD2 behaved really well grin didnt wake up screaming and didnt mess with her feed for once so boob exposure was kept to a minimum. DS also did well not running out the room every 5 mins - she has no stair gates (ive no idea how she manages Id never be able to sit down) and coming back in when other kids were going out. Starting to feel a bit more OK about DH going back to work.

Congrats Scorpio well done on the BF and Scampmum sounds like you have had a mad weekend but at least she is here at last!

Well I have been in hospital since Friday came out this morning I really really would recommend NO ONE TOUCH CASTOR OIL!!!! I only took the recommened dose and oh my god did it make me ill i have been on a drip for three days with D&V (didnt tell the hospital what I had done feel like a right pratt blush anyway i was dehydrated and had ketones in my urine! but they did do a sweep on me this morning and have had a big show so hopfully not too long - although I am doing nothing to bring him on anymore as decided its not worth it I will have in a few weeks whatever!

Cary M2b2 I know how you feel its kind of hormonal isnt it? Cary do you have a Tescos near you as you can get the baby pineapple there and the core is soft and eaay to eat its horrid in a big one!
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By Carey87 on Mon 21-Apr-08 12:32:40
do have a tescos yeah, DP got two of teh biggest ones he could fine bless him going to eat the otehr one now and then get him to go and get some baby ones tonight. I had heard though that it can take up to 7 pineapples bfore anything starts

Also going to try nipple stimulation later as a friend said that she only did 3 lots of 10 mins a couple of hours apart and she went into labour.

EPO? Ive got some 1000mg capsules, can I take them with RL tablets too?

hello everyone,

congratulations to everyone who's had their LOs. Today is my due date and my midwife came to do a sweep this morning, but couldn't as my cervix is posterior angry am now munching on pinneapple and sipping raspberry leaf tea after a good walk around town - hopefully one of these things is going to work <optomistic emoticon>

Oh TLSM, you poor thing. I do know how you're feeling though, I was desperate to get Alex out (though now I miss being pregnant hmm).
How much castor oil did you take?

Scorpio!YES!YES!YES!FUCKING YES!I am soooooo pleased for you!!!I actually got a tear in my eye when I read that <still very hormonal>

I feel a bit more like my old self today, DP is at work, DD at school so it's just me and DS1&2. I've finally managed to get my house back to how it shoudl be, DP has tried but it just wasn't how I like it iyswim.

As for Alex, well he's just ike his brother was, he never really cries, feeds well, and is quite happy to just sit in his seat looking around. He slept for a good few hours last night, waking up a few times just to snuffle and gurgle at me and then going back to sleep. He has a 'tetchy time' though, about 1:30am every morning he cries, and won't calm down enough to latch on whilst laying down so I have to sit up and feed him but apart from that I hardly know he is here. Fingers crossed it stays that way, it did with Bobby but it could all change!

Annieroo, get the capsules, make sure they are without vitamin A, they should just be vitamin E.
You take two 500 capsules once/twice a day and can also insert them up there before you go to bed.
My cervix was perfectly ripe after about three days of doing it, I just didnt dilate.

VS I am so happy for you am so glad you have really bonded with Alex bet you think what was all that worrying about!

Carey you can take the EPO with RL tablets also I have found that it is better to stimular the nipples by hand I did it for an hour the other night in hospital (its ok I had a private room because of the D&V) and started getting really strong contractions but they stopped as soon as I stopped! my nipples were then sore so thought best to give up grin I also tried with the breast pump at home for a hour last week and all that did was give me a blister on one nipple although that has now gone so hopfully I have harded them up for the real thing grin

VS you're so lucky - DS sounds like a great baby. I'm SO hoping for one like that. It sounds like you've bonded really well too which is great.

I haven't really been trying anything special to get this baby to come and I'm worried that at some point I'll regret that! I just can't get my head around the nipple stimulation thing - it sounds like such a great idea (and you don't have to go and buy anything) but for whatever reason I'm really put off by it. It probably relates to my issues with breastfeeding etc too.

Yey for scamp!!! And little scamp!!!

And yey for scorpio too!!!

I had a show this morning - all a bit embarrassing actually, woke up thinking hmmm i feel a bit damp, went to loo and (sorry if TMI) lots of liquid and icky blood-tinged stuff everywhere. So I rings hospital who say hmmm come in to get checked just encase your water's have broken, so I go, only to find out that they haven't and I had most probably wee'd myself a bit in the night. SOOOOOOOOO ashamed blush

But have defo had show, and am getting contractions. They are more painful now, about 20-30 secs long and about 15-20 mins apart. So I am at home. Bit bored and hurty. Have done some cleaning, everything is ready, note left for Mum if she has to look after DSD tonight about school arrangements etc.

Will probably all just stop now. Midwife said am not in labour yet, but 'on the way there' whatever that means.

Hi Ladies

Back out of hospital. No baby yet even though when all this started a 34 weeks they said that they would induce me at 37 weeks. But it is my due date tomorrow. At least baby is safe and I am alot calmer now.

I thought I'd started yesterday had pains every 20 mins but they seem to have stopped today. When I was on the baby monitor thing I was having contractions all the time but apparently they were only practice ones but that has to be a good thing at least my body is trying.

They are going to sweep me tomorrow. I will send out labour vibes if you guys all send them my way. I would really like this to happen naturally

Congratualtions on all your babies Im so jealous in a lovely way of course.

Scorpio it only seems like yestersday that we were on the conception pgs bding like mad. Funny how history repeats itself DH does not know what has hit him as we are at it all the time to try and get baby out.

For a first baby, when they are regular, lasting a minute or more, and five minutes apart (from start of one contraction to start of the next) some hospitals advise something other than five minutes). Or if you aren't coping at home.

For a subsequent baby they tell you off if you wait that long (IME).

BB you might not need the pants, i'm still flabby obv. but back in old size clothes due to ds4 being a very enthusiastic feeder!
He's also a good sleeper- i have to wake him for feeds at night- but more than makes up for that by screeching every time anyone puts him down, or takes him out the house. To say he's a quiet reserved home-loving soul doen't even start to describe it!

HV came round today (MW not discharging me until may 2nd due to oral vit k and weight gain so I have HCP overlap!), fortunately i was out as she hadn't made an appointment and the living room was a tip hmm- have to call her to book an appointment. grrrr. LAst time Is aw this woman was with ds3, when she said he ahd failed all his developmental tests but she was passing him as she 'knew he could do it if he wanted'- thereby delaying him getting any help by a year.

I've been in regular clothes since a week to ten days post-partum... my "fat" (OK, "fatter") regular clothes, admittedly, and I don't want to attempt the others for a while. I actually weigh slightly less now than when I got pregnant, but I had a lot of weight to lose at that point and my belly is just scary now (DS to me yesterday: "what happened to your belly button, Mummy?").

Still having contractions but they ain't bad. Just a bit ouchy. About 5 mins apart now and lasting 30-50 secs each.
