Fab scan news for Lolis, Mower and AutumnLady but still no twins - i was hoping for that extra one in the post Lolis Oh well it's got to be someone on here!!
Anybody else suffering from sharp pains in ovary area? I have been for a while now when i stand up too quickly or stretch in a funny way. I'm not worried about it as sonographer says its uterus stretching but it can be bloody sharp sometimes and can take your breath away.

Serendippity fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow xx

Serendippity and HEarttomum I know it will not make one iota of difference to you, but I spotted dark brown blood until 16 weeks with DS2. It scared the living daylights out of me but is quite common as you can see from these threads. Stay with it, we have got this far...If you are really really worrying then go directly to your EPAU. I found out at mine on Monday that it is a drop in clinic and you literally get a number and wait your turn. It is worth it for the reassurance (remember me convinced I wasn't pregnant as lost all symptoms?!)

Mower - glad things went well at your scan and welcome back to the thread!!

Has anyone heard from Oblomov - I wonder if she managed to sort her nightmare scan situation out???

LOL Hanaflower, I really like that! We still have to squeeze in the mothercare pregnancy email that many of us recieved that says we will be piling on the pounds now. (SOOO not true in my case, I am still the same as I was the day I got my BFP, although the scales were ummming and ahhhing about the possibility of me having gained a 1 lb, but changed it's mind at the last second.)

I just got off the phone with ds2's consultants secretary, I got as far as about 30 seconds into my "speil" before I broke down in tears. I am far more upset than I thought I was. The poor woman was flabbergasted and very, very nice. Took all my details (well, ds's detail, lol!) and said she would see the consultant tomorrow now, and talk with him about getting me on his list at the fetal medical centre at Birmingham Women's. Hopefully I will get a call tomorrow to say he will see me. I can't see him saying no, but I know that there is a private clinic that offers cardiac scans, but I would be more comfortable with and trusting of our ususal consultant.

mower, good to see you back on the thread! I am sorry to hear of the issues you have been having. I had a bit of pain 10 days ago, one sides that went away after a few days, and have been spotting myself, 3 times in the last 10 days. Thankfully baby seems to be fine. Ds2 was seen 4 weeks ago and I mentioned my pregnancy then, but it was a registrar (story of my life!), so I doubt he made a note of the pregnancy, but said they would want to scan me between 18 & 20 weeks. I had no idea the odds were as high as that, I think I was told 3-5%. I hope all goes well at the dr's for you this afternoon.

LOts has happened today since we went to the park. Sorry SOExcited, I was rushing and got mixed up. It sounds like you need a proper photo scanner, is the one at work a document scanner? That may be the problem.

Great news about scans, Autumnlady and Lolis!

Heartmum, I second the consultant route. I have just been on the phone trying to chase up my mil's scan results (she's had colon cancer), and I've developed this method of being fairly quiet on the phone, but giving no impression of getting off the phone until I get the result I want, or someone offers to help me get there. I find it works better than getting cross and is much less stressful. You need this scan to get peace of mind and I can't see why anyone would say you don't need it.

Ceebie- I fell clean of a high stool a few weeks ago and all was fine. If you start developing any pain in the baby region, I would get it checked out, but otherwise thye are well cushioned in there!

Lackadaisy- thank you! The curls are all his father's work- and they are a real hit with the ladies!

Hello mower- glad to gear all is well, hope the pain stops soon.

Good luck to the people having scans tomorrow!

mower, good to see you on here again, and glad your scan was fine, but sorry to hear about the pain. did they check your ovaries at the scan? sometimes the corpus luteal cyst gets too big, or doesn't reabsorb as it should and that's what causes pain.

Off to wake DD up (she has been asleep for nearly two hours!) and go get DS from school.

HeartMumtoJamie, know I haven't been on this thread much. Had quite a bit of spotting and pain so didn't want to commit myself! Anyone had a scan last week and all is ok and spotting has stopped, I just have one sided pain now, going to dr this afternoon about it.
Anyway just wanted to say that when I last took my ds with heart condition to check up in dec I had just found out I was preg (miscarried). Anyway at the time I told consultant I was pregnant and he said he wanted to scan between 18 to 22 weeks and even wrote this in the letter he sent. He said having one congential heart baby you have a 2 in 50 chance of having another so it is very important to be checked out. You should def def get an appointment, I would advise going straight to your ds consultant.

Heart - You are welcome it just makes me soooooo MAD.... for you and all the other people that are being subjected to blo*dy protocol! I am sure DS2 will be ok. Does he go to any groups and mix with other children? Up until the age of 5 I was with a speech therapist and under a health visitor because no one could understand what i was saying. They thought I was slightly deaf at one point. I had so much to say but wanted it all to come out at the same time lol. Ended up that health visitor told my mum that I was actually very intelligent (I was boring and used to sit doing jig saws for hours). To be fair I struggled through school (not due to work but being bullied)and then I seemed to blossom and suddenly realised I had a brain and voila I qualified as a solicitor. (Would actually still like to study to become a doctor but Tarquin has put a hold to that for a few years grin which I so don't mind). God knows why i have just told you all that but thought it may help?? SEE i still talk C**P heehee.

Mum2becks, homeschooling can be hard work sometimes, lol! We tend to fly by the seat of our pants most days, but loosly follow the national curriculum for reading, writing and maths right now (ds1 is in year 2, ds2 is in reception). DS2 is particularly difficult because he has never been in a school environment and has a noticable speech delay (has alot of words and a HUGE understanding, but his speech is rather babyish in his pronounciation). We just do what we can with him, he picks up so much just from everyday life. He can happily read telephone numbers, lol! It definately is not for everyone though. If we ever move and get into an area with decent schools, we will condsider re-introducing ds1 and starting ds2.

Pinkali, thanks so much for your heartwarming rant! It makes me feel better to know that I am not being silly for wanting my baby checked out for my peace of mind. Admittedly, ds2's heart condition was not spotted in utero (infact, was not diagnosed until he was 9 months, was the worst 9 months of my life, he was a very difficult and sickly baby). I really am not sure the best way to go about getting my appt. I might try calling ds's consultant directly, he also specialises in fetal echo's, so may be able to bypass the referal system, other than that, or it is the GP, but I don't have time to wait for them to write back and forth with an appt. Dh works his rota's out 5 weeks in advance and is already fully booked at work (sales rep) until I am 19 weeks. If I want dh to come with me, I need to know NOW! LOL!

Serendippity - Good Luck for the scan hope it goes well. It is perfectly natural to worry but I am sure it will be fine. x

Lolis - YIPPEE brilliant news!

Heartmum2 - That is utterly CR*P. For gods sake don't they take peoples feelings into question? It's not good enough just to tell you that it's not hereditry (sp)you obviously want it to be checked out. Fight for it! That has made me angry, it is a little like my sonographer that wasn't going to scan me for my official dating scan cos I had one at 8 wk 4 days. Even though i told her I was worried something was wrong. I needed the reassurance, bugger protocol! Phewww ok i'm over that now grin x

Ceebee - I agree that if you haven't any pain or bleeding then things should be ok. Babies are happily floating around in lots of fluid so really are quite hardy to such things. If you getting more and more concerned ring the EPAU. x

Congrats Autumnlady & Lolis!!

I have just got back from the biggest waste os time OB appt ever. I didn't get to see a consultant, just a registrar (what is the point in sending high risk patients to registrar's?). She told me that ds2's heart condition is not hereditary and so random that she doesn't think I need a fetal echo but will write to Birmingham Women's anyway (undoubtedly saying that in her humble opinion my baby's heart does not need scanning). I don't care what anyone says, I WANT MY babys heart looking at, so will bypass the bloody registrar and will either ring my GP to do the referal, or speak to ds2's cardiac consultant as he is the one who does the fetal echo's! The appt was running an hour late, I had both boys with me (I home school) and they couldn't even find the heartbeat, which I heard clearly at home 30 minutes before I left. Grrrr, flaming useless.

Ceebee, I wouldn't worry about your fall. Babies are very well protected in there. I tripped and fell onto my belly at 39+5 with ds2 and although I did give birth a few hours later, I was told that I wouldn't have gone into labour from the fall, I was obviously ready to go (I did have a HUGE show that morning). Maybe you could call the midwife and talk it over with her?

I find it so hard keeping up with this thread as it moves so quickly!

Serendippity - your scan is the same day as me so we are 'scan buddies' - it does seem SO long away doesn't it? And all this talk of twins is scaring the living daylights out of me!

Went to a zoo yesterday and they had some really slippery walkways which of course I fell over with a huge bump onto my (very well-padded) bum - am quite worried about 'bump' as am only 10 weeks pg - do you think I should go and get checked out? I have no pain or bleeding or anything so maybe I am panicking over nothing.

hi ladies!

I'VE GOT A BABY IN MY TUMMY AND IT'S CUTE!!!!

And it's NOT twins (as far as I know lol)

DH made me drink loads beforehand and my bladder was really painful. Then after a tiny glimpse of baby, the machine crashed and we had to wait 5 mins before it booted up again! I was SO uncomfortable and scan lady said I could go to the loo and let half out, but I was too heavy to move! Then she said my bladder was very full indeed and didn't need to be that full! GRRRRRR DH....

She was nice though and gave me 4 different pics for free cos she felt bad. Apparently you have to pay for them normally - didn't know this....
hmm

It was kicking around and doing the spine jerk thing and seems to have really long legs, which is weird cos DH is SHORT but I have tall brothers.

Anyway, it's all good and I'll see if I can put the pics up.

Oh and I'm 12+2, so due 9 Nov, pretty much as I thought.

Morning All,

Lolis - Good Luck for today! Twins ahoy... JOKE!

I had a chance of twins and have been on Clomid. When I went for my 2nd scan the sonographer nearly made me jump off the bed when she said "...and there's one heart beat and... (long pause) there's the yolk sac".

Serendippity, hope the discharge stops. Like everyone has said brown is old blood so should be ok, but i'm sure you'll keep an eye on it. I took a photo of my scan pics. They're not great but I took the flash off which helped a little.

Lacksadaisy - Great photos. Your DC are gorgeous! It is very weird seeing a picture of someone who you have been talking/emailing anonymously.

I am feeling good today. Had a few twinges at bedtime but know that can be normal. Other than that boobs don't hurt and I am loving Cheese and tomato sandwiches with salt and vingear crisps pushed in. I keep telling myself that I must start eating healthy now I am starting to feel better.

I'm 11 + 5 today.

serendippity We both must really get off this brown discharge/spotting roundabout! I also woke at 4am to more brown spotting, quite a bit actually, but I know from the sca that there is a small pool of blood that would either some out or be reabsorbed. It doesn't make me any less worried, but again, the doppler is a god send, baby sounds happy enough, but my blood runs cold everytime I see brown. Thankfully I am seeing my OB for the first time this morning, so I will tell her and as I will already be at the hospital, hope they can squeeze a scan in for reassurance.

It was me that asked about scanning pics - I just put it in the scanner, and did the auto scan. It's not my scanner (a work one) and there don't seem to be many options. Went really grainy. Maybe try a different scanner, and put a book on top of the pic to make sure it's flat.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By pinkyminky on Tue 29-Apr-08 09:40:47
Serendipity have you scanned it in as a colour photo? That usually has the best result, and make sure it's totally flat on the scanner?
Get yourself some extra rest, and try not to worry about the discharge.

Twins- no they are not, sometimes one hides behind the other!

I will ask DH exactly where the one I got was from.

Morning all,
Woke up this morning to browny discharge again not horrendous and not red blood but a colour that shouldn't be there definatly! No pain tho, so keeping everything crossed it stops like last time.
Given the size of my bump i wouldn't be surpsised if i have more than one in there...but that would terrify me beyond words so i'm going with "it's the second baby so i'm showing early"
People have started commenting, and we have a family birthday party for dd on the 10th may, we were hoping to still not tell all of my family until my scan on the 15th, but i do not know how i will get away with it!
I'd love a doppler, but we agreed to do this pregnacy cheaply, last time we spent soooo much money of stuff that we hardley every used and we're determined to just buy essential stuff this time envy of those with one tho

Lolis you have done really well to find MN before you have even finished the 1st trimester in your 1st pregnancy!!! I didn't find it until about 10months ago and have a 4 year old and 22m year old!!! Mind you, maybe that's a good thing, as I am getting a little hooked blush

I did worry about twins due to excessively looking pregnant even at eight weeks, as the risk of fraternal twins (ie more than one egg released at a time) increases with age. I read somewhere that this is also more likely if you get pregnant quickly after stopping birth control pills.

<daisy worries half the thread who haven't had their scans yet wink>

thankfully there's only one in there!

Well LolaBella, if I have twins I'll post one to you. No one will ever know, if we give birth at around the same time! Foolproof and everyone's happy!

I was really paranoid that people would notice my stretchy-pocket maternity jeans, as I've been wearing them for a month now. Grew out of my jeans really early and didn't want to buy new ones that were just a bigger size and then buy maternity jeans later. I think people have noticed, but I've got to the stage of not caring!

Anyway, by this time tomorrow, if all goes well the cat will be out of the bag and the beans spilled!

I wouldn't go shopping for maternity stuff before, as I was paranoid that someone would see me and word would get round - I'm a teacher, so there are a lot of potential spying eyes in town!! Now that I have told work, will try to go soon. Can also start wearing the stuff my sis has lent me - I was paranoid someone would notice a label or something before!

Hi everyone, glad you are all ok. Last pgy I got clothes from dorothy perkins and marks and spencers.

Been to see MW today who gave all the blurb about how you should bf (I wanted to with DS but had terrible problems, won't go into detail but it didn't work out, one MW told me my boobs were too big! only 42dd! Anyway, I told her I wanted to try again with this one. The MW was ok, can't beleive appt took an hour just to go through stuff. She took some blood etc and will get my 20 week scan sorted out. Don't have to go back until mid June (due to holidays). I got the fetal doppler in the post today and tried it when I got home, I could hear the hb quite clearly - was amazing - not bad for £15. Only thing was it was delivered to work and the lady who opened the post is quite nosey, the box had written on the back fetal doppler - not sure whether she realised or whether she is keeping quiet!!

Anyway 11+3 today!!!!

Will try and keep up with you all.

x

Smiles smile

SoExcited - my loose tops have become clingy tops and my clingy tops have become crop tops! Put my trustiest loose top on this morning and found that it is tight as a drum on me. There's no hiding it now.

NO NO NO - please not twins! Don't jinx me! DH is a twin, but since twins are inherited on the maternal side i'm hoping I'm in the clear....I'd have to sell one and keep the other! (JUST JOKING)wink

Another happy day for scans but i do wonder who will be the first to announce twins There must be someone on the November thread.
I think i am getting a little bump too -i'm 13w +1 today, my pubic bone area feels really hard and it seems to move upwards each day. I can't wait till iv got a fully fledged bump though.
Good luck to Lolis on your scan tomorrow, bring us more good news - maybe twins!!

I think it depends on your normal shape a lot. I put weight on my thighs and bum, and don't ever put any on my stomach. So it seems really noticeable to me. It means that even my normal 'fat' trousers, are too tight round the waist though, as they tend to be just looser cut hip and leg.

Oh, well - we'll all have proper bumps and decent excuses for elasticated waists in a few more weeks!!

I am 11+0 and reckon I have a bump visible to me and DH. Not yet to anyone else, although I feel a bit paranoid that people might guess if I wear clingly tops!

I told the headmaster, and he was lovely about it even though this is my first year in the school. Will be such a relief when it's no longer a secret....

I just can't wait to see my bump. I'm 11 + 4 today and other than a pushed out little podge (too high I think to be Tarquin) so am expecting in next 2 weeks for my bump to appear. My sister starting showing around 12 weeks but she normally looks like a stick insect.

Thanks for the tips on maternity wear SoExcited and DM. I know I've got a little while to find the perfect dress (or indeed trousers) for the christening, I just thought I'd start getting some idea of what's available.
You can tell I'm a novice at all this - didn't realise I could have a high or low bump hmm Something else to wonder about smile

What a lovely happy thread today - we are all shiny happy mummies to be!!

Good luck for tomorrow Lolis...

CriCri - I would wait until a few weeks before the chrsitening to go looking for clothes as eally makes a difference to the shape of the dress if you are a bump high or bump low.....I always find JoJo Maman good for dressy stuff, but if you really really want to push the boat out, try Seraphine, Isabella Olivier or Formes....all very expensive though, but as I look at it, we are not drinking for at least 10 months so think of the money you are saving that way!! (Gosh, I sound like a lush don't i!)

Bet he can't wait to finish! I'd really like to do an MA at Kings (here in London) but I seem to have scuppered that one for another year at least! Would like to eventually though. But I am a personal tutor on a BA course, which I'm loving smile

I know, I have the same problem. I can't be up more than 10 minutes without eating, then I shower. I'm trying showering in a lower temperature, and just trying to be quick. Then I have a sit down for 5 minutes afterwards! It is really annoying. It takes me ages to get going in the morning! (or any time of day really smile)

Hey Lolis, my DH works for the Youth Service- he's a detached youth work coordinator. He retrained after being an art lecturer for years and he loves it. He's just finishing his MA at the mo.

Great to see more happy scan results!
Pinkali I hope your MIL is ok. MY FIL had an undiagnosed subdural Haematoma, it could have happened years ago, but the symptoms didn't manifest until last October. We all thought he'd had a stroke. Fortunately, he improved massively after surgery.
Lolis, I am sure you are right about the shower thing. II have a bit of a problem really. I can't get out of bed without eating, dear DH brings me my cereal, it takes me ages to eat, then I have to wait until it's gone down a bit before I get up- if I want a shower too it takes me hours to get anywhere in the morning!
I try to have a bath in the evening instead, if I'm not too tired.

Heartmum love your scan pics- and your boys look adorable!

I'd agree Lolis. My hubbie does medical research and that's what he reckons. It's the same reason as cycling to work too quick makes me feel sick at the moment

Mmm just had a thought about showers and nausea. My best school friend's Dad, who was a chemical scientist, used to say that you shouldn't shower after eating because your blood goes to your skin, leaving your stomach and therefore not digesting your food properly.

Just my amateur attempt at providing some kind of explanation.... wink
